Tristyn Tavarez flashed some serious skills at quarterback last year for Norwin. I was very impressed with his film last year. Below is what I wrote about him earlier this year:

“Tavares has good mechanics and throws an excellent ball. He is especially good at reading the defense and making all the right throws inside the pocket. He throws an excellent deep ball in which he puts a good touch on the ball. Tavares shows good mobility and makes plays with his feet. He is especially good at throwing the ball on the run. Tavares is a talented player who should only improve going into his 2nd season as a starter”.

2,500+ passing yards, 25 TDs, 7 INTs is the ratio he carries into the offseason. Proud to see Tavares cash in on a productive season. WPIAL’s passing leader, multiple single-season records are now held by the “undersized” Norwin underclassmen. The young man deserves respect, I had no choice but to leave him inside the Top 300. Spread-offense operator, has the most “wow” throws on tape. The accuracy, some of the buckets this kid drops the ball into are jaw-dropping. Tavares has always flashed a strong arm, he’s always flashed a good understanding of the position. He took a step forward this past Fall. Dimes thrown to the far shoulder of targets when attacking vertically. Can arc the football, doesn’t deliver a flat ball downfield, he knows how to get the point down. The work in the offseason with his weapons translates, there is clear chemistry on tape. Tavares is aware of his own build, yet he doesn’t let anything deter his base or vision downfield. Of course, he could do a better job keeping his eyes downfield, stepping into pockets, etc. Yet I have no problem seeing Tavares throw off-platform to avoid getting punched in the mouth. I have no problem with Tavares going off-script and creating with his legs behind the LOS. Great season out of the Norwin passer.

Tavares is a tough passer with a lot of potential. He utilizes all of his targets when completing the football. Tristyn gets the ball out quickly to his weapons. He’s solid at executing play-action and the zone read. He’s mobile and decently athletic. He distributes the ball equally among his receivers. He throws hitches and quick-hitting 3-step patterns with zip. Tavares takes what the defense gives him and utilizes his check-down option. He’s a dangerous passer capable of completing passes on all three levels. Tristyn’s variety of high-volume passes will be an asset in pressure moments coming down the stretch in the second half of 2023. Tavares has thrown 13 TDs to just 4 interceptions this season.

2026 quarterback, a PRZ camper, and a kid that I’m fond of, Tristyn Tavares Tristyn Tavares 6'0" | 195 lbs | QB/ATH Norwin | 2026 State PA is working hard in the classroom. High Honor Roll honors for each of the last three terms. Tavares posted no less than a 94.13 GPA within the same time frame. Good attendance, good class diversity. Tavares is early into his HS career as a student but is already starting off on the right foot.

The Norwin passer has had some bright moments early on that are at least worth a mention. Don’t be fooled by this kid’s size, he can launch balls 50+ yards if he needs to, his tape against Penn Hills proved it. He can also locate and throw accurate balls in the red zone if he can throw from a clean pocket. This young man will be in our plans to be ranked at a future time, hoping he continues to develop.
