Expert Analysis
Mark Johnson | Prep Redzone Scout
Tre has made a strong case for the best player in the state of Wisconsin. A big part of his success is the way he plays zone coverage. He is so quick to read the QB or routes in front of him and react. He knows where to get himself to make a play on the ball. The footwork is there for him to be to quickly transition from a backpedal or change direction to go and attack the ball. Tre also has shown elite range in zone coverage where he has made plays across the field. Tre is one of the best DBs to come out of WI in a long time, so he is a must in this article.

Tre was even more of a weapon than just the usual dual threat or three faceted threat. he was a game changer on offense, defense, and special teams. When you pile up all his touches you get a little over 100 touches total, yet the electric senior still was responsible for almost 40% of the team’s TDs on the season. His threat to score whenever he touched the ball was unmatched this season. His ability to make a play from anywhere and any position on the field was unparalleled. However Verona needed him to create a play or mismatch Tre was able to do it and win his battles for the ball. Poteat changed the game and demonstrated what a Power 4 skill player looks like while leading his team on a strong playoff run.

The #1 uncommitted player in Wisconsin is Verona’s CB/ATH

. Tre also holds the spot of the best defender in Wisconsin. The CB is spending the weekend on an OV with the Wisconsin Badgers, who are one of the many Power Four programs after his talents. While watching the tape it quickly becomes apparent how far above the competition Tre is both physically and mentally. The mental side of the game is where I love his game most. Poteat reads the field and understands what is going on quicker than everyone else. That gives him the ability to be a step ahead a lot of the time. Then you give that star athlete who is a step ahead the best athletic profile on the field and you get someone who is simply unfair. Tre has exceptional agility, change of direction, and burst to be able to play press coverage at the next level and his ball skills are top of the line too. If you haven’t watched his film then I highly recommend you change that.

There is a lot of talent at the top of the 2025 Class in the state of Wisconsin. You won’t find a better uncommitted talent than the two way athlete,

. The CB/RB/WR/Returner makes an impact all over the field and is a threat to score with every touch. When it comes to projecting the star to the next level, it looks like CB will be his best fit. The 2025 has the tools to welcome WRs to his island and leave them stranded. The athletic tools are all there. He has speed to burn when he needs to turn and run deep with his man. His reactive athleticism to route breaks is excellent, and his balance, agility, and burst allow him to stay glued to his man through those breaks. Tre also does a great job playing the ball, breaking up 7 passes and picking off 3 in 2023. The junior jumps off the tape, even with a lot of talent on the field around him. He is an FBS prospect all day every day.

Stats: 3 Receptions, 34 Yards, 2 TDs, 3 Carries, 13 Yards, 4 Tackles, 1 TFL, 1 INT, 37 Yard, Punt Return, 45 Yard Kick ReturnrnTre was the top talent of the evening. That isn’t anything new for one of WI’s best recruits. The junior dominated all three phases of the game. He showed off speed and vision on punt and kick returns. Returns that set his offenses up with short field after short field. On defense, Poteat wasn’t targeted much, but watching him run stride for stride and changing directions with WRs was so impressive to see. He was also a reliable open field tackler. On offense, Tre was super aggressive at the catch point. He showed off a huge catch radius, going up for catches in traffic. Poteat also was dangerous after the catch with his agility/elusiveness. Tre is a complete prospect that will be playing FBS football.

The #1 player in the Class of 2025 did not disappoint. He made impactful, game changing plays on offense, defense, and special teams. He was listed at 6’1″ 165 lbs, and played even bigger. On defense, I’m not sure if he was ever targeted. They may have went to his side, but the only time I saw him close to the ball was when he read it, and closed on it from his deeper zone position.
Where he made his biggest plays was on offense, and special teams. The sophomore took a screen pass for a big pickup setting up Verona’s only second half TD. His big returns on punts set up the two field goals as well.
Tre is such a naturally gifted athlete. He makes everything he does look easy. He is explosive laterally and vertically. His acceleration and top speed are elite. His recognition skills and vision are D1 level as well. Tre is a special talent that will have a lot of choices for the next level.
