This list wouldn’t be complete without the leader in touchdowns. Wheat measures in at 5’9 170-pounds and is like a bowling ball. Accounting for 143 carries, 1603 yards and 23 touchdowns on the ground. He had 7 receptions for 201 yards and 2 touchdowns. He also got some action as a free safety, with 19 total tackles (6 solo, 13 assisted), 2 INT, and 1 FR. Wheat has very good athletic ability due to very good acceleration, speed, change of direction, and balance. He is the whole package at running back. He also does damage in the passing game. Being a reliable target for his QB in distress. He has very good vision, choosing the correct gap and thrashing the defense. He’s a mixture of physical and speed. Wheat puts his shoulder down to run through defenders. Wheat uses his home run speed to run past both levels of the defense. He drives his powerful legs forward for extra yardage. Wheat is a fantastic back, and I’m curious to see where he lands.

Wheat was a player that was able to turn some heads this season as a versatile playmaker who thrives in space. With incredible speed and vision, Wheat is a threat to break long runs every time he touches the ball. His ability to make defenders miss consistently puts him among the most elusive backs in the state. Wheat’s impact isn’t limited to rushing; his soft hands make him a reliable option out of the backfield in the passing game. He has the ability to break a tackle or showing off his hands catching a screen, he brings electrifying energy to any offense. Still unsigned, Wheat is an ideal recruit for teams that are seeking a dynamic and multifaceted running back.

Tay finished 9th among all running backs with 1,603 yards on 143 attempts and 23 touchdowns. If that doesn’t have your head spinning, he averaged an insane 178.1 yards on the ground a game. Tay is 7th on this list because of what he did in the season opener on August 23rd against Gallup. On just 12 carries, he had 243 yards and four touchdowns. That is an astonishing 20.3 yards a touch.

Tay Wheat Tay Wheat 5'7" | 170 lbs | RB/DB Montezumacortez | 2025 State CO is one of the most electrifying backs I’ve seen coming out of the 2025 class. He is a baller. He had multiple 200+ yard games, including a 446 (rushing + receiving) yardage game against Bayfield. Wheat measures in at 5’6 155 pounds. His frame isn’t an issue, this kid is a gamebreaker. Throughout the season he rushed the ball 145 times for 1436 yards and 15 touchdowns. In the receiving game, he caught the ball 19 times for 272 yards and 3 touchdowns. Wheat has elite athletic ability due to elite speed, acceleration, change of direction, and very good balance. Wheat has home run speed, and can outrun defenders past the 2nd level consistently. When he gets the ball, he is gone. Tay has very good mental processing, and is able to diagnose the correct gaps to punish the defense for big gains. If he chooses the wrong gap, he will use his elite athletic ability to change direction and keep going. He has an elite juke move, and uses his change of direction to pivot on a dime. He even has some hops too! Hurdling over defenders and clearing them to continue rushing for a touchdown. Wheat is very good at breaking tackles. It takes multiple defenders to take him down. He’ll consistently use his size and speed to be slippery towards defenders and go through them. Wheat has very strong legs too. He’ll drive through multiple defenders to get free. For example, he came across a wall of LBs and DEs. He continued driving while not giving up, eventually breaking through for a big gain. Wheat is a baller, and deserves more eyes on him especially for his senior year.

Wheat is a player that has good burst and can use that to get out in the open field quickly turning on the jets and being that explosive play threat. He has good balance as well being able to break tackles and get skinny when in the hole. He is a player that can be impactful out of the backfield as well, having soft and being able to make things happen after the catch.
