Mark Johnson | Prep Redzone Scout
The senior out of Eau Claire Memorial has put together some impressive film in his senior season. The 6’1″ 205 lbs senior is a physical presence in the backfield. He does a great job following his blocks and once he gets into the second level he goes to work with his physicality. Shimar is a punishing runner with a strong lower body that can churn through contact and break tackles. The senior finishes every run with violence as he tries to gain extra yards. Shimar also has something on tape that is very rare at this level. Pass blocking reps. The kid excels at taking on LBs and has the power to either stand them up where he meets them or pancake them onto their backs. He is a versatile and talented athlete that is soaring under the radar. Get on him today.

Shimar returns to the Old Abe offense after leading the team in rushing in 2023. He finished the year with 125 carries for 507 yards, and 4 TDs. Memorial is returning several studs to their offense this fall, especially out wide at receiver. The way talent is spread across their formation could leave Shimar facing some light boxes. That will play well into his play style and skill set this fall.
Simmons is a patient runner. We see him allow blocks to set up before attacking the line of scrimmage. Shimar has some wiggle to his game in tight quarters. We see it as he forces missed tackles in the gap or behind the line of scrimmage. The 6’1″ 200 lbs junior has the frame to handle a large workload and to also play physical. He runs through arm tackles and finishes violently in short yardage situations. While Shimar isn’t a burner we do see him with enough speed to break loose in the open field at times. Shimar is an experience back with a solid frame and a balanced attack of agility and power. A big year could be loading.

Shimar burst onto the Prep Redzone WI radar early in the 2022 season. The 6’1″ 190 lbs sophomore RB demonstrated next level ability on a weekly basis. His talent has earned him the RB3 spot in hi debut. Simmons is an upright runner, yet he somehow is still able to play with very good contact balance. He is able to take hits, bounce off tackle attempts, and finish runs with physicality. Shimar is a quicker than fast RB who will leave defenders tackling air with his lateral jukes. He also has the vision to find cut backs, blocks, and find the path of least resistance. Look for him to continue to build on those strengths this fall.
