Davis is a massive back with easy long speed that shows up on film. At times, it doesn’t look like he even has to run at full speed to blow by the second and third level of the defense. He holds the ball high like plenty of bigger backs of old and that goes along with his old-school running style. He’s in a unique offense at a lower level, but he’s easily a Division I guy in our book.

A bruising power back, Davis plays both ways for East Duplin and has put up impressive numbers in back-to-back seasons, averaging over eight yards a carry as both a sophomore and junior. He also has 4.5 sacks in the last two seasons after playing some as an off-ball linebacker and edge rusher. Davis has good vision and is a long-strider, running away from defenses at the second level.

Davis is a huge fullback in East Duplin’s run-heavy offense with more speed than even most scat backs in the state. There will be the normal college adjustment for Davis, who will be moving from a high school run-heavy offense at the now-4A level to a more traditional college offense, but the size, speed, and moves will absolutely translate. That gives him one of the highest upsides in the state.

Davis is always a fun evaluation for several reasons. He plays in a unique offense and gets to do a lot of different things you don’t often see other backs. He’s a big dude with an upright running style. It works for him and it helps his vision and allows him to stay closer to full speed after breaking tackles. Maintaining speed after contact is key because he breaks a lot of tackles and rarely goes down on first contact.

was named 1 of the (2) selected Buck Sweep Sports 1st Team Running Back. Davis is physically impressive, standing at close to 6’2 and over 210lbs, he already has the next level frame. Shawn also performed very well for his East Duplin Panthers, especially during the playoffs. Davis carried the ball almost more times during the last game of the season and playoffs (78) than during the entire season (91). When his team needed him the most, he was able to step up and deliver.

When I first started seeing training videos of Shawn, I became very excited because he is a very smooth-looking prospect who shows very good fluidity with great overall size for a running back prospect. With Shawn being at a run-first school, the potential is there for him to become a highly productive player this upcoming season. That is something he is familiar with already as last season he had 1144 yards and an 8.1 yards per carry average. On his highlights, Shawn shows both power and speed as he runs through multiple tackles in his clips. He should be a fast riser in our next rankings update.
