An absolute bowling ball of a ball carrier, BSM’s Sean “Suga” Washington has been an experienced and productive varsity tailback going into his third season as the Red Knights’ starter. Washington is coming off a junior campaign that saw him post 171 carries for 823 yards and 8 TDs while helping the Red Knights to a Class 4A, Section 5 runner-up finish. He displays great contact balance and runs through tackle attempts like it’s middle school competition trying to bring him down. Washington bowls over defenders while shoving their heads to the turf, walking through the wrap up, slipping through, and continuing forward like it was nothing more than a strong gust of wind, and he can carry defenders draped on his back for extra yards like they were a school backpack. He displays quick, active feet and good vision also do a good job of remaining patient and allowing holes and creases to develop in a defense, and runs into dogpiles and contact full throttle, moving mass and finding first downs and touchdowns despite fierce resistance. There’s a smooth and fluid run style and COD ability combined with power, physicality, and aggressiveness, a scary combination for opponents. Plus, the Coon Rapids product has loads of varsity experience to strengthen his resume. North Dakota State just got him to Fargo for a Junior Day and it should remain a busy offseason for the BSM tailback.

A recent PrepRedzoneMN Showcase standout from the Combine Series’ stop in Plymouth this past April, “Suga” Sean Washington was by far the most productive sophomore back in the Metro and big school ranks last season, finishing with 174 carries for 1,425 rushing yards and 7 TDs (8.2 YPC), and he added 17 receptions for 258 yards and a TD for good measure. Contact balance and physicality are the name of his game, and he made himself known to 5A defenders all season long by running behind his pads. Tough yardage, breaking down a defense over four quarters, and forcing DBs to make business decisions are all his forte, and I love his natural build, low center of gravity, balance, and pad level for a ball carrier. It’s hard for defenders to get a clean shot on him, and when they do, his size and strength allow him to absorb and continue forward without losing momentum. Washington bounces off tackle attempts like a bowling ball and possesses one of the best truck sticks in the Land of 10,000 Lakes. He’s also a patient runner with solid vision and anticipation who sees the cutback well, shows burst through the first and second level of a defense, possesses solid lateral agility, and shows soft hands as a pass catcher. Additionally, Washington is an asset in pass pro from the RB spot – a trait hard to find in prep RBs – and overall he’s a kid who thrives and does his best work with the pads on. That BSM offense is stacked to the brim for 2024.

Washington runs well behind his pads. With a low center of gravity, he gets his shoulder pads beneath most would-be tacklers, allowing him to bounce off, run through, or drag tacklers for extra yards. The sophomore has good vision and quick feet – especially at the line of scrimmage. Those feet keep him from committing too early, so he can bounce a run a hole or two over from where the play was designed. Although he is effective in space, the sophomore is most effective if he can make one cut and get downhill. Washington is not just a rushing threat. He catches passes out of the backfield and is a willing blocker.

Washington became a standout running back in the Class of 2026 this season and possesses a dynamic set of skills that sets him apart. Washington’s ability to break arm tackles showcases his strength and determination, making him a resilient runner out of the backfield. His speed is a notable asset, allowing him to outrun defenders and quickly get to the edge, often running away from any would-be tacklers. Patience defines Washington’s running style as he waits for his blocks to set up, showing his astute understanding of the offensive scheme. Notably, Washington’s low center of gravity and exceptional contact balance make him a challenge to bring down, even for defenders attempting to go low. His ability to exploit bad angles further solidifies his reputation as a running back capable of turning potential tackles into missed opportunities for the opposition. Washington’s combination of power, speed, and elusiveness positions him as a promising prospect with the potential to leave a lasting impact on the Class of 2026 and beyond.
