has been on our radar for quite some time but it’s always been for what he’s able to do on the defensive side of the ball or as a hybrid athlete type. And while we still like his overall versatility and his ability to play defense, James has felt like he’s been on another level this season with his abilities on the offensive side of the ball. Putnam City is in a position at the time this is published where they are one win away from playing for the state championship. James has been a big part of their climb to get there. He’s a terrific athlete and to be honest, it doesn’t matter what side of the ball James ends up on, he’s a next level-caliber athlete and will make someone very smart.

will be one of Turnbull’s top targets this season in the passing game. Last year, despite the inconsistencies from the quarterback position, James would establish himself as the team’s top target in the passing game. He finished with 34 catches for nearly 650 yards and nine touchdowns. He had multiple games where he went over 100 yards and had a touchdown and we’re looking to see more of that from James this season. Again, he’s going to have some help around him so that should make things easier. He’s described as a dynamic playmaker and we’re looking to see that playmaking on full display.

has been a name that we’ve written about a handful of times whenever we’ve updated the state’s 2026 rankings. He’s been a name to know in this class since his freshman season. James was a standout for Putnam City West to start his high school career. But fast forward to this season and he’ll be a standout for Putnam City and the Pirates are going to be a dark horse to watch this season. James was thrown in the fire when he was a freshman at the cornerback position and he has performed at a very high level. James is a terrific athlete and we’re looking forward to seeing what he does this fall.

is one of the more underrated defensive prospects in the state. He’s been playing outstanding football since he was a freshman. Last fall, he was thrown into the fire as a cornerback and he had a really strong season. We mentioned over the summer how we like what the Patriots are building and they got off to a great start this season, winning their first three games in a row. PC West isn’t lacking talent at some of the skill positions and James is certainly in that conversation. As PC West continues their push for a playoff spot, we’re looking forward to seeing what James does down the stretch.

definitely belongs in that list. Last season, as a freshman, James was thrown into the fire at cornerback and excelled. James really excelled in man to man skills because he had the athleticism, sudden burst and overall speed to keep up with any wide receiver. James also did a good job of peaking at the quarterback while in man to man and would be able to be in a position to make a play on the ball. James is yet another prospect that could really jump up the rankings with more production on the field.

is an outstanding athlete and honestly, he’s the first of several 2026 prospects for the Patriots that jump off the charts in terms of athleticism. For James in particular, he was really good on the defensive side of the ball as a cornerback. James really excelled in man to man skills because he had the athleticism, sudden burst and overall speed to keep up with any wide receiver.
