is a promising running back prospect in the class of 2027, who displayed skill and potential during the Prep Redzone New England Stockup Showcase. At 5’10” and 200 lbs, he combines decent speed with agility and strength, positioning himself as both a durable inside runner and a capable asset in the passing game. Currently a junior at The St. Mark’s School in Massachusetts, Sam began his high school career with immediate success, starting as a freshman in 2023 and continuing into his sophomore year in 2024.
Physical Attributes
- Unverified Height/Weight: Sam’s frame at 5’10” and 200 lbs provides a solid base, allowing him to handle the physical demands of a running back, particularly in inside running situations.
- Speed: He exhibits decent speed that complements his running style, allowing him to navigate through traffic effectively, though he is seen more as a durable inside runner than an outside threat.
Performance Against Competition
When matched against top linebackers in the group, Sam excelled, winning the majority of his repetitions. This demonstrates his competitive nature, as well as his ability to elevate his game against higher-level competition. His performance in these matchups underscores his readiness for the rigors of competitive play at the next level.
Technical Skills
- Agility: Sam shows very good agility in space, allowing him to make quick lateral movements and navigate around defenders. This agility is crucial for changing direction and finding gaps in the defense.
- Lower Body Strength: He possesses good lower body strength, which aids in his ability to break tackles and gain yards after contact. This trait is particularly valuable for an inside runner.
- Juke Ability: Sam’s high-level juke ability allows him to make defenders miss in the open field, increasing his effectiveness as a running back and enhancing his potential for big plays.
Role Projection
Given his attributes and performance, Sam is well-suited to translate into a third-down back at the next level. His ability to catch passes out of the backfield and excel in short-yardage situations will make him a valuable asset for any collegiate program.
Areas for Development
To further elevate his game, focusing on developing his speed and overall explosiveness could enhance his outside running capabilities. While he is currently viewed as an inside runner, broadening his skill set to include effective outside running will increase his versatility.

After catching a nasty injury, Sam is back and looking to make an impact. He brings a burst to the backfield, and also has soft hands to catch passes. He is strong enough to break tackles, and also shifty enough to get to the boundary. Keep an eye on this player this summer.

He is willing and delivers effective blocks on the perimeter and as a Rb he gets downhill and uses power in his lower body with a effective stiff arm, to break tackles. On defense, he defends the edge effectively and reacts quickly with good pursuit angles to chase down ball carriers. He performed at a high level and with confidence his first season at the varsity level. Its rare that a freshman is used in such a way “Surgento” was used in his first year playing in high school. A great indication of a future college player.
