Ruid is one of the more physical offensive linemen in the state. He comes off the ball with intensity and plays until the echo of the whistle. His upper and lower body strength both give him advantages over opponents. He is strong enough in his lower half to drive people off the line but strong enough up top to re-route defenders if he gets out of position. He has position flexibility – spending time at both tackle and guard. After making initial contact, Ruid keeps his feet moving, and because of that, he can stay engaged with his block and keep moving his man backward. Ruid doesn’t waste any movement. He is efficient in all his movements.

The Minnesota OL talent over the next couple years looks special. Among the best of them is St. Francis OL

. The ’25 is already massive at 6’4″ 294 lbs, and he has the athletic traits needed to be an elite prospect. Sam had some of the best feet I saw. He was the definition of a dancing bear. Sam was able to slide and mirror in every direction and his change of direction looked easy for him. Ruid’s reactive athleticism stood out from the crowd. He mirrored his opponents, used his length to get first contact, then overpowered them or ran them far past the QB. Sam performed like an FBS talent and his tape supports it as well.

Ruid is one of the best sophomores I have seen watching video this season. His footwork is really nice for someone so young. His kick step and pass set look like he is an experienced veteran. He is quick off the line of scrimmage, and his straight-line speed is very impressive. He gets to the second level as quickly as I have seen with an athlete his size. I would like to see him lower his pad level, but he is physically strong enough to compensate for a sometimes high pad level. He is strong enough to make inferior defenders look bad, even with a high pad level. When pass blocking – however – he keeps his hips nice and low.

The early favorite for OL1 and an easy choice for a Top-10 overall recruit, St. Francis’ sophomore is coming off his first season on varsity and shot his stock up into the recruiting stratosphere in December at the PRzMN Stock-Up Showcase, measuring in at 6’4, 282 lbs. and running a 5.1 40, 4.69 short-shuttle, and 8’2″ broad jump for some outstanding testing numbers for his size, not to mention his age. His athleticism shows up on tape, where he can smoothly pull across the LOS and far downfield in a fashion more akin to a LB than a OL of his size, and although raw, his pass set and ability to handle speed rushers looks easy and natural at 6’4, 280+. The big word that comes to mind with him is body control, as he can move, run, block, stop/start, change direction, and stay upright in rare fashion for a big guy of his size. His playstrength is also great, as he doesn’t have to work hard to finish defenders into the ground and has good pop when he lowers his shoulder or uses his punch as well. It’s a very promising and exciting tape and I’m psyched I got to get an early look at the sophomore back in December. Big things are coming, Sam.

I often am asked the question: “do you need to attend a PRzMN Showcase to get ranked?” Although the answer is an unequivocal no, the fact of the matter is that getting eyes and an in-person evaluation on a recruit can be a gamechanger in a recruitment, and St. Francis sophomore offensive lineman Sam Ruid is a good example of the positives of attending one of our events. Coming into PRzMN’s Stock-Up Showcase, Ruid was an All-District HM pick with good things going for him on tape as a young buck, but did an awesome job of putting his skillset and athleticism into context and broadening his recruitment profile with an excellent showing during testing and eventually 1-on-1s. At a legit 6’4, 280+, Ruid clocked a 5.1 in the 40 and a fantastic 4.69 short-shuttle, not to mention an 8’2″ broad jump, and still has a ton of room to fill in and add muscle and potentially inches on an already strong and compact frame. Those are great numbers at his size and age, to say the least, and he rocketed up our 2025 board and debuted as OL1 and #7 overall in Minnesota coming out of our state’s premium position group. As a LT, the film shows great body control, the athleticism to gain a ton of depth in his pass set to counter speed rushes upfield, and natural strength and finishing ability that he doesn’t have to work hard for. Also played OG and was a fantastic puller who could change direction and start and stop smoothly at his size. If he continues to work to clean up his technique and level up in the weight room there won’t be anything he can’t do on the gridiron as an OL. P5 prospect with more room to climb up these rankings.
