Another Maple Grove 2025er, DE Sam Hanson was another young up-and-comer who had his hands all over the 13-0 2022 state title for the Crimson, and since the last 2025 update, he came into our PrepRedzoneMN Showcase and exhibited some impressive testing numbers at a legit 6’2, 220+ pounds that included a 4.8 40, 4.5 short-shuttle, and 9’3″ broad jump to highlight his speed, quickness, and explosiveness. Knowing that the athleticism holds up against a high level of competition, it makes sense why Hanson found so much success in the trenches against big school opponents as a young buck. Positionally versatile and lined up at NG, 3T, and 5T with both his hand in the dirt or from a two-point stance, Hanson wins a ton of reps with his explosive first step and strength/pop at the point of attack, where he knocks blockers off balance and occasionally onto their butts, where he can then free his hands and make tackles through contact. He’s also got light feet and the speed and motor to chase down runs from the backside of the LOS. Additionally, he’s a good baseball player for MG, and the combination of verified athleticism, high-level experience, size, and versatility helped Hanson raise his stock from #31 to #26 on the 2025 Big Board! Maple Grove will remain a must-stop on the recruiting trail going forward.

Another impressive DE that had a great day is the Maple Grove prospect. Checking in at 6’2″ 213 lbs, Sam ran a 4.80 40, 4.6 in the pro agility, and had a 32.9″ vertical. Even as a sophomore, Hanson was able to make an impact on the 6A State Champion team. Watching his tape, Sam is a prospect with a very strong blend of agility, power, and quickness. His quick twitch out of his stance and laterally make him very difficult to land a block on. Sam also transitions that burst into power when he bull rushes opponents. As he continues to fill out his frame the 2025 will become even more of an impact all along the DL. Make sure this kid is on your radar over the next couple seasons.

Another impressive Maple Grove Crimson sophomore who is a part of the talented defensive line group of the MN 2025s showing some impressive early mettle, Sam Hanson is a 6’2, 215 lb. DE who helped the Crimson’s varsity reach big dog status as the big school state champion in 2022. With a strong, powerful, and compact frame, Hanson can beat blocks at initial contact thanks to his pop and low pad level and showed he can hold a gap through an onslaught of multiple blocking attempts. He’s a strong kid who got better as the season went on and had himself a notable state playoff performance, especially at U.S. Bank Stadium. Hanson is a strong kid with as much thump as anyone on the rankings and knows how to use it. He’s only getting stronger too! Next season is going to be a big one for the young Crimson defensive lineman.
