The 2025 Class A runner-ups Breckenridge have something to prove in 2026. Beginning with a Bemidji State small school War on the Shore Team Camp win, the Cowboys have some serious size and physicality in the trenches and some real-deal playmakers on the perimeter, a dangerous combination that is already giving the Cowboys‘ Prep Bowl aspirations yet again. Like any football team, no matter the level, things ebb and flow with your QB, and the Cowboys have a good one in 2026 in Riley KappesRileyKappes

Breckenridge | 2027 StateMN, who popped off for a huge personal showing in Breck’s Week 1 win against Benson, 35-22.
Kappes went 12-17 for 220 yards and 3 TDs through the air + 14 rushes for 151 yards and 2 TDs in the win, and the film shows off a dynamic, dual-threat talent who stretch the field with accuracy and touch and distribute to his playmakers well. However, he also has the juice to find six himself, displaying vision and burst, COD ability leaves opponents and defenders’ ankles stuck in the mud, and the ability to shift into another gear when he hits the open field. Kappes can pull away from defenders and has the top-end speed to finish big runs into the endzone. Also an elusive scrambler, mobile around the pocket, throws a good ball on the move and is calm and comfortable with pressure in his face and a pocket that has broken down. Buy stock now! I smell a ranking’s bump.

on Saturday. He was well-versed with his timing of his routes and in my eyes had the best poise I saw amongst the quarterback group. His timing was evident on muliple levels of the field. The athletic traits I saw grow from December during the state championship game as Riely was well-rounded across the board with his testing. He’s one that I would expect to get some more recruting attention this summer into fall as there’s again, plenty of position flexibility you could place Riley with positionally in my eyes.
