Steger was one of the guys on a loaded Kuemper roster that I was most looking forward to scouting during last week’s state semifinals matchup with Wilton. He impressed with his power and physicality, a scenario that played out again during the championship game against Van Meter. Steger controls the guy across from him on a regular basis. As I said, he physically overwhelms a lot of them but is far from a lumbering big body. Steger is athletic and explosive. He displays slick feet and ease in getting out in space, where he reaches blocks. Steger’s strong hands aid him, and he benefits from gaining leverage versus the opponent.

FCS power South Dakota State brought Steger in for camp last month and extended a scholarship offer before he left Brookings. It feels like Steger’s recruitment is just getting started and more will be coming his way when others get a look at him this season. Steger impressed during sophomore highlight tape. He showed the versatility to succeed at both offensive tackle positions in 2024. It’s worth continuing to develop Steger out there with the idea of showing college scouts that’s his future. He operates with slick feet and balance. Steger effectively uses his hands well in pass-pro, where he shows advanced ability. He’s also a mauler in the run game and could end up developing as an impactful performer on the interior for the next level. Stay tuned.

Following a camp performance at South Dakota State in late June, Steger reported a Jackrabbit scholarship offer. It won’t be his last. The impressive offensive linemen camped at Iowa and North Dakota State, two programs with a keen eye for student-athletes at his position. When you pop on Steger’s sophomore highlight tape, you can witness what has college coaches interested in him. Kuemper utilized Steger at both offensive tackle spots. With good footwork, balance and hand placement, Steger is proficient in pass-pro. The same can be said about his work in the run game, where physicality and leverage overwhelm the opposition.
