From no offers to being committed to one of the best programs in DII football, a lot can change in a single midseason of play! The athleticism has never been in question for Rosemount Irish three-sport stud Quinton VeDepo, and I still remember the hurdle he threw out on his freshman tape like it was yesterday. A standout hockey player with the Irish who also has earned All-State honors on the track, VeDepo’s high-octane play style has finally paid off in 2025, as the lockdown DB earned his first offer from St. John’s in mid-September, followed quickly by a DII offer from NSIC heavyweight competitor Augustana, who the defensive back smartly committed to a couple days later. I love the match, and Coach Olszewski’s high-class staff does a great job of developing defensive backs, so to see VeDepo’s athleticism heading to Sioux Falls really gets me fired up!
There’s a little bit of Honey Badger in VeDepo’s game, as he’s all over the field and has a knack for a splash play. He opens his tape with a thrilling read and pick-six vs. Centennial, blocked a FG in that same game, and is instinctive in coverage, but is as comfortable and effective inside the box as he is in man or zone coverage. VeDepo’s physicality and pop are quite impressive as well, as the 5’9, 165 lber. is physical when setting the edge as a safety and really punches above his weight in the physicality department, both when tackling and when attacking would-be blockers. Augie got a stud!
