Cooks plays with relentless intensity and toughness on the field- he’s not shy of contact and plays with maximum effort each snap. It’s easy to see this in his tackling- Cooks does a great job wrapping up ball carriers in both the backfield and out in space- he uses his instincts and quick reaction speed to be a very reliable tackler. In addition to his tackling, Cooks has shown he can do some damage against the pass as well, whether he’s being used as a pass rusher or if he’s in coverage. Cooks had a big year last fall that featured him picking up offers from Marshall and Georgia Southern. In addition to that, Cooks excels at stopping plays in the open field- doesn’t let the ball carrier slip by and is found making tackles all over the field. Cooks’ reliable presence on the field gives confidence to his teammates and coaches and consistently makes him a player you need to be on the lookout for on offense. Cooks is talented on the edge and makes his presence known against the run and pass equally with the way he is able to dominate opposing offenses play after play. Last fall, Cooks had a really productive year- posting up 38 tackles (8 tackles for loss) 2 sacks and 2 forced fumbles. Cooks has a really fast first step that he pairs with a ton of power to make opposing tackles look silly- constantly on tape he is found either leaving them in the dirt, or dust, to go ahead and make big time tackles in the backfield. Cooks pursuit after the ballcarrier really shines on tape as well- he never gets discouraged and plays with maximum effort each play which leads to tackles all over the field.
