Preston Cowan Preston Cowan 6'3" | 225 lbs | DL Paris | 2025 State KY is a player who has been on my radar for a while now and continued to impress as a senior. Cowan lines up at defensive end where he is very disruptive against the run. He does a great job of shedding blocks quickly then using his speed to get to the ball carrier in a hurry to make the tackle before they can get going. Cowan finished the regular season with 117 tackles and 19 tackles for loss in 10 games. He has also shown the ability to put pressure on the quarterback, finishing the regular season with five sacks. Exceptional performances are becoming pretty common for Cowan and his undefeated Greyhounds, and his accomplishments on both sides of the football in their 40-6 district road victory at Nicholas County only confirm his status as one the top two-way linemen in Class A. Collecting 4 solo tackles, 8 assists, 2 tackles for loss and 2 sacks from his DT/DE position, he employs an explosive take-off from an athletic three-point stance and enlists improving blow delivery/separation skills to quickly defeat single blocks and disrupt offensive paths and timing. Also an offensive mainstay at the left tackle position, his Greyhounds rushed for 281 yards and 4 touchdowns in the win, averaging an impressive 8.8 yards per carry on 32 rushes. Currently the leading tackler on statistically the 11th-best rush defense and the 7th-best team defense statewide, he has produced 26 solo tackles, 42 assists 18 tackles for loss and 6 sacks (3rd in Class A). Cowan’s lower-body flexibility, athleticism and technical progression make him a top line prospect to track going forward.

Primarily aligning as a loose/wide 5-technique defender in the Greyhounds’ 4-man defensive front, Cowan enlists excellent separation skills, disciplined paths/footwork and consistently sound pad level to consistently disrupt run inside run plays, while intelligent pursuit angles and speed combine to make him a consistent factor on the perimeter. In his squad’s eye-opening 33-6 win over Class AAAAA Montgomery County, he rang up an astonishing total of 11 solo tackles, 8 assists, 7 tackles for loss and 2 sacks in helping lead his program to their first 4-0 start since 2015. Currently the squad’s leading tackler this season, in only four games, he has already collected 17 solos, 23 assists, 13 tackles for loss, 3 sacks, 1 forced fumble and 1 fumble recovery. A two-way starter, Cowan’s development on both sides of the ball has directly contributed to his program’s recent resurgence, and increasing numbers of scouts/supporters are beginning to take notice.

Another defensive player that impressed this past week was Paris sophomore linebacker Preston Cowan Preston Cowan 6'3" | 225 lbs | DL Paris | 2025 State KY . Cowan played a key role in their 33-21 victory over Betsy Lane, finishing the game with 22 total tackles and three tackles for loss. Preston does a great job of reading his keys from the inside linebacker spot and filling his gap with a sense of urgency. Once he gets to the ball carrier, Cowan explodes through contact, finishing his tackles with a ton of physicality. He also does a great job of flowing to the ball and making tackles all over the field as he is a very reliable open field tackler. While Cowan doesn’t currently hold any offers, he will definitely be a player to watch over the next couple seasons. Preston and the Paris football team will be on the road for a second round playoff match up against Raceland this week.

Preston Cowan Preston Cowan 6'3" | 225 lbs | DL Paris | 2025 State KY is an underclassman linebacker that has jumped onto my radar this season. He had a very impressive sophomore regular season, finishing second in 1A with 117 total tackles along with 15 tackles for loss and four sacks. He lines up as a true inside linebacker and does a tremendous job of shooting his gap with a sense of urgency against the run. Once he gets through his gap and to the ball carrier, he explodes through contact to secure the tackle. He also does a good job of scraping to the ball when the play is away from him and making tackles in the open field. Against the pass, Cowan does a great job of timing his blitzes to shoot through the gap before opposing offensive linemen have a chance to react. Preston doesn’t hold any offers yet but will definitely be a player to watch over the next few years.
