You want a motor? I have to reflect back to what I saw when Preston was a freshmen at the NDSU Indy Camp as he had one of the best ones I saw amongst the defensive line group back then. Our DL8 in the class from LaMoure-Litchville-Marion, is a nasty bull-rusher in the 9-man ranks that shows off gritty hands at the point of attack that doesn’t waste time running his blocker out of his stance quickly. That motor that I mentioned above, really translates in the last few steps you see on tape from Preston when he gets downhill to the carrier as oddly enough, that finish struck a chord with me a couple years ago in Fargo if I remember correctly. The 6’1 225 pounder has gotten so much more efficent with his pass-rush moves and gets off of blocks smoother than ever in his juinor tape as surely another one in this group of DL10-DL6 that surely can play at the next-level as this class is really deep.

Preston was not only our highest rated trench mosnter in the 9-man state championship game, he also was my highest graded. Another defenisve linemen that was top-tier for tackles and lead the Loboes in sacks (2) in the game as well. Preston has gotten much more agile whene his moves going downhill from the last live eval I got and is one that mades his presence known once he hits that backfield. I’ve said before on PRZ how much I love this kid’s motor, as don’t be surprised for him to be a big 9-man target at the next-level upcoming.

Preston is still one of my favorite 9-man targets we identified at the NDSU prospect camp last summer, as a defensive linemen that plays with a relentless motor and shows off a chip on his shoulder mentality too. He showed off the attention to detail at NDSU, as the moves he learned at camp show up quickly on tape with getting off blocks quicker and more powerful than you would expect out of a 6’0 200 pound defensive end. Preston also shows off his balanced pad-level on tape on a consistent basis getting quick downhill leverage. I could see positional movement to linebcker for Preston to linebacker at the next-level due to the big motor I have seen a bunch over the last seven months. He also reports a 405 pound squat which is another number I like for the linebacker position from an upside perspective. Twitter
