Stats: 5 Receptions, 140 Yards, 4 TDsrnWhat a way to start the season for the Freedom WR! Owen dominated Friday night, and proved to be an athlete to watch the rest of this season. Throughout the highlights, Owen showed a knack for being able to find the soft spots in coverage. Against man coverage, Wedin was able to get in DB’s blind spots to get “lost” by the DB resulting in him being wide open. Owen also was a solid route runner, and had speed to pull away after the catch. Finally, Wedin did a good job tracking the ball on deep targets and adjusting to it to give himself the best chance at making the catch. Owen put himself in the spotlight with this effort.

The 6’2″ 195 lbs junior continues to grow this offseason adding 1″ and 5 lbs so far. Watching through his highlights, I believe he looks his best at the LB position. He can play at the line of scrimmage, drop into coverage, or rush the QB off the edge. Wedin’s range and lateral agility give him that ability to drop into coverage. He is able to cover ground shuffling while reading the QB’s eyes. He also uses that lateral movement to better take on blocks when setting the edge against the run. It helps him to only have to beat half a man instead of the whole block. On offense, Owen uses his athleticism to get open from the slot and the traditional, inline TE position. In those alignments he is able to get favorable matchups against LBs. I will be looking for him to have a big role this fall for Freedom.

Rise: 131 up to 88rnOwen spent 2021 impressing on JV, and setting the stage for a move to the Friday night lights. His 6’2″ 190 lbs frame is a solid spot for his TE and LB roles. On the edge, Owen has shown a high motor and relentless pursuit effort to make plays. On offense, he has shown soft hands, and the ability to get open in the slot. I’m looking forward to seeing his development and use at the varsity level. Keep an eye on him these next couple of seasons. Freedom has put out several impressive prospects. Owen can be next up.
