delivered a standout performance for Rumson-Fairhaven, throwing three touchdowns in their victory. He was sharp on short and underneath routes, consistently getting the ball into his playmakers’ hands. More importantly, he avoided turnovers and kept the offense running smoothly and on schedule. O’Toole’s impressive night also saw him surpass 5,000 career passing yards, making him only the second quarterback in Rumson-Fairhaven history to reach that milestone. His steady leadership and efficient play have been key reasons why Rumson-Fairhaven stands at 4-0 this season.

. Leading his team to back-to-back state championship appearances, Owen is looking to bring it home the third time around. Throwing for over 2000 yards and 18 touchdowns last season, Owen demonstrated that he can throw with the best of them in the state. Two things really stand out to me in Owen’s passing game. The first is his arm strength. He’s got a cannon of a right arm and can hit his receivers anywhere on the field. The second is the body movement Owen displays during play actions and in the pocket. You can tell Owen has put in a ton of time towards perfecting both, as he does an excellent job looking defenders off to create throwing lanes, and also exaggerates the play action to get the defenders convinced on the run.
Owen is one of those QBs that I don’t understand why he isn’t getting more collegiate recognition. He’s put up the stats, he’s gone to the place every high school player dreams to get to, and he has a great frame for a pocket passer. This 2024 season should convince schools that their missing out on a top tier talent.

After making an extremely impressive playoff push, Rumson-Fair Haven fell to Westwood in one of the best games of the year in the state championship. Rumson-Fair Haven was a surprise after they entered the playoffs with 4 losses, but it will be no surprise in 2024 once they’re back in the same position.
Leading the charge is their returning quarterback

. Throwing for over 2000 yards and 18 touchdowns, Owen commanded his offense extremely efficiently all season long. What sets Owen apart is not only his arm strength but accuracy as well. He not only can toss it deep down field to an open man, but can squeeze the ball into tight windows. Rumson-Fair Haven will need to reload at the wide receiver position, but luckily for them Owen will be the one throwing it their direction.

has been letting it fly for Rumson-Fair Haven. Overcoming a four game losing streak and now on a 6 game winning streak, the junior QB has helped turn the tide and is now playing for a state championship. Throwing for 1917 yards and 17 touchdowns, Owen has an extremely strong arm and can put power behind the ball on the run and across the body. Owen has displayed precision as he can throw it into tight spaces, especially in the end zone. And with 5 touchdowns on the ground, Owen can turn to his legs if need be.

(with more to come) as they look to settle unfinished business in pursuit of the Group II State Championship. More of a pocket QB, O’Toole was 163/304 for 2161 yards with 25 TDs and 7 Int last year, while also scoring once on the ground.
I started by saying O’Toole is more of a pocket QB. This is because he keeps his eyes down field at all times, even if the rush is in his face. He also is unabashed, happily absorbing hits in the pocket when necessary to deliver a strike. Should he break the pocket, O’Toole has the presence of mind to give himself up and slide rather than fight for more yardage, which is not necessarily a strength of his. O’Toole has faith in his receivers to go up and make a play on the ball when necessary, while also putting just enough touch on the deep pass where only his man can get it. One grow for O’Toole would be to speed up his release. Tight windows will not be so tight if he does.
With a seasoned veteran QB reclaiming the ranks and a stout o-line in front of him, I fully expect the Bulldogs to be a team that dominates the Group II title conversation.
