There’s a real smoothness to the way he moves once the ball is in his hands — fluid, controlled, hard to square up. You see it most on kick returns, where he can weave through traffic without needing to rely on big, dramatic cuts. It’s more about feel and balance than flash. On offense what stands out is his natural timing. He has soft, late hands and does a good job adjusting his routes to the ball in the air. After the catch, he’s tough to bring down because he stays composed and keeps his feet working through contact. Defensively, he shows good awareness reading the backfield and has the range to turn mistakes into big plays. He’s already starting to draw Division I interest, but if he puts together a full season of production, both his state ranking and receiver ranking could end up needing a big bump by the time it’s all said and done.

Smooth tracking and adjustment ability with the ball in the air, attacks it and shows he can flash quick hands to play it outside his frame. Once the ball is secured, he becomes explosive and dangerous after the catch, using burst and fluid movement to turn routine plays into chunk gains. Initially offered by Northern Arizona, he’s got a great foundation of size and ability to build on and could be recruitable at multiple positions.

What stood out most was how smooth he looked tracking deep balls — adjusting mid-route like it’s second nature. Add in those reliable hands that quarterbacks love (and opponents hate), and it’s no surprise Maryvale looked like a completely different team once he stepped on the field.

In 9 games, Woods rushed for over 700 yards and 6 TD’s in 2024 at Carl Hayden. This year, he could see those numbers sky rocket as he transferred over to Maryvale and will play for the Carter’s, who have a successful history around the state in rebuilding programs. Wood’s is a speedy, shifty kid with dynamic ability to be a difference maker from a variety of spots. He can cut on a dime and flashes a nice stop and go stutter to frequently make opponents miss, making him a big threat in space.
