Expert Analysis
Mark Johnson | Prep Redzone Scout
Wisconsin has an embarassment of riches at the OL position. Michael is a great representation of that rich talent. He has a massive frame at 6’6″ 280 lbs and it comes with an elite 6’11” wingspan. All key numbers that suggest he has a bright future staying out at OT at the next level. The massive prospect impresses with his mobility on tape. You see him close on LBs quickly and also move from block to block with quickness and violence. The dancing bear is also comfortable in pass protection. Michael makes it look easy as he mirrors his man until contact is made. Then he quickly shuts down the attack with his superior power. Smith has so much talent to continue to tap into. His best football is still way ahead of him. Get this kid on campus and in your OL room.

The OT out of Wisconsin Lutheran is the one of the top offensive linemen in the state, committed or uncommitted. He has a massive frame with the elite length needed to thrive at the D1 level. His skill set is also filled out with D1 talent. Michael moves smoothly and easily laterally or when attacking the second level. He has the range to quickly close on his opponents. Smith plays with devastating power from his hands to his feet. Power that allows him to easily overpower DL at the HS level and will allow him to hold his own at the next level. The big, athletic, and strong OL is also violent on the field. He finishes blocks, and punishes his opponents. College rosters can never have enough outstanding OL talent. You need this kid on your roster.

Michael is the top new addition in the rankings update and he is the top uncommitted offensive lineman in the state. I was able to watch Michael in person and the big man definitely looks the part of a future D1 OL. The tape also highlights traits of a D1 prospect. Michael is very agile and light on his feet, giving him the range to get up to the second level or get out in space on screens. He has that unfair, overpowering strength in the run game to bully his opponent off the line and create positive flow along the trenches. Smith also has natural flexibility and is able to keep himself in positions where he can instantly create power on contact. The standout OT also is a difference maker on the DL for Wisconsin Lutheran. Big things ahead for one of the top uncommitted players in WI.
