Schmitz recorded 57 tackles and 8 sacks as a sophomore as one of the most notable breakout stars from the Warriors. Schmitz does an exceptional job attacking the interior gaps and shows impressive power tackling low and driving his hips upward for a clean and effective takedown. Schmitz’s role may best suit him on the Edge, but he’s positioned himself well to become another prime prospect coming out of Caledonia who has boasted some impressive names over the last few years.

Schmitz recorded 39 tackles and 4 sacks in his freshman year. Schmitz is undersized as a defensive-lineman, and while there isn’t much film on his performance from his freshman year, his smaller size and speed made it difficult from blockers to contain him on the inside, while also being able to chase down the ball-carriers moving outside the pocket. Schmitz also had several impressive reps on special teams on kickoff coverage where he made some big hits on the blockers. It will be interesting to see how Schmitz’s role will develop going forward, but he should continue to see a lot more reps going forward.
