We last wrote a Jones evaluation way back in July after a Class of 2027 rankings update. No time like the present to check in with him to see how his junior campaign unfolded for him at Central Lee. Jones caught both of his targets for 15 yards. He carried 20 time for 75 yards, but really stood out as a blocker with 13 pancakes. Jones collected 33.5 tackles, 22 of which were solo stops. It appears Jones has transferred to Fort Madison. The Bloodhounds should feel good about that addition to their program if Jones’ 11th-grade highlights are any indication. Athleticism and agility stand out right away. He flashes potential to play linebacker at the next level, flowing well to the football and shedding blocks. His upside at tight end is significant as a strong blocker and fluid route runner. It’s a frame that has room to fill out as well.

jumped on our radar after a stellar PRZ showcase performance last winter, which prompted us to make sure he ended up as a ranked prospect this go around. Max is an intriguing prospect who can fit in a TE/H-back role. Jones impressed with his hands and route running, showing he can work out in space and create separation from defenders with the sure hands to haul in passes through contact. Jones also possesses good balance when battling through contact and can usually tack on extra yardage after the catch. Max is an excellent asset in the run game, showing he can be an effective lead blocker or play as an extension of the OL as an in-line TE. Solid prospect who could earn looks at several different positions.

In many respects, Jones looks like a man among boys during his sophomore highlight video. He’s bigger, stronger and faster than most of the competition. He caught seven passes for 93 yards and a touchdown, but did a lot of damage in the running game. Jones impacted the proceedings as much as any of Central Lee’s offensive linemen in that regard. He could raise his stock this offseason by showing more than what he has on film in the passing game because the blocking tape impresses.

Only a sophomore, Jones is a big-bodied player who runs hard and displays deceptive quickness with a 5.5 40-yard dash. He sells routes effectively and shows shifty movement on the field, evidenced by a 5.06 shuttle and 8.34 L-Drill. Effort and strength are standout attributes, and as he continues to mature physically and refine his game, he’s poised to garner serious attention from scouts in the coming years.

wasted no time earning a starting role on the varsity squad. Max wrapped up year 1 with 21 tackles and several flashes of the high-level player he can become. Jones displayed a quickness to diagnose the play and was quick to break on the ball and step into his lanes. He showed the ability to fight off blockers while not giving up positioning. Max also showed nice closing speed and is smart about tackling angles. Lots to like about this young gun already!
