A top 100 junior prospect in Pennsylvania and one of the top 10 linebackers in his class. His most recent tape, shared on Twitter, showcases two interceptions, both of which he returned for touchdowns. He also recorded seven tackles, including one tackle for loss.

Checking into his Hudl, he also posted a quick 20 second single game cutup of his performance against The Peddie School.

Looking back at his highlights against Father Judge from two weeks ago, Gooseby appears to be playing some of his best football of the season.

His first rep results in the first of his two pick sixes. He navigates a curl drop zone with a trips formation aligned to his side of the field, keeping his eyes on the quarterback and reading the developing route concepts.

He recognizes a slant, sits underneath the route and jumps the passing lane for an interception. From there, it is an easy walk into the end zone.

Fantastic awareness and understanding of his coverage responsibility.

His second rep is very similar, resulting in another pick six. This time, he drops into underneath coverage against an ace formation, reads the quarterback’s eyes and works laterally with the inside slot receiver.

He understands the coverage concept and how his responsibility changes depending on the receiver’s route. If the receiver cuts inside, he can pass him off to the safety. If the receiver works outside, Gooseby knows that responsibility belongs to him.

He executes this extremely well, maintains proper positioning and comes away with another interception, returning it approximately 60 yards for a touchdown.

Two excellent examples of his instincts, route recognition and ability to make quarterbacks pay for mistakes in the passing game.

Further into his tape, you get to see Gooseby operating in his more natural role, the one that originally earned him a spot inside our top 100.

Forcing runs back inside. Shooting gaps. Closing rushing lanes. Attacking blockers before they can reach their intended spots.

This is Gooseby at his best.

He brings a violent, aggressive and tone setting mentality to the linebacker position. He doesn’t wait for plays to come to him. He attacks the offense, diagnoses what is developing and looks to disrupt the play before it has an opportunity to materialize.

What makes this particular performance so impressive is that he combines that physical presence against the run with legitimate playmaking ability in coverage.

After already showcasing his instincts with two interceptions returned for touchdowns, he continues to demonstrate the downhill aggression and physicality that make him one of the better linebackers in Pennsylvania’s junior class.

There is a lot to appreciate about a linebacker who can create explosive defensive plays in coverage while still bringing that same violent mentality to the box.

I have already seen Gooseby live once this season and would love to make it twice before the year ends.

For now, he continues to justify his standing as a top 100 prospect and top 10 linebacker in Pennsylvania’s 2028 class.

Previously ranked No. 45 out of 200 prospects, Maurice Gooseby Maurice Gooseby 6'0" | 205 lbs | LB Germantown Academy | 2028 State PA now sits at No. 86 in a significantly expanded rankings field. On the surface it may look like a major drop, but my overall opinion of Gooseby has changed very little. Recruiting has not caught up to my initial evaluation yet, though I still view him as one of the better linebackers in Pennsylvania’s 2028 class. Currently unoffered, Gooseby remains one of the highest-ranked prospects in this range without Division I attention. At 6’0, 205 pounds with a 3.2 GPA, he possesses a profile that should eventually attract more recruiting interest. A former PRZ PA Showcase attendee, Gooseby has consistently remained on my radar throughout the evaluation process. In my opinion, he is still a Division I caliber linebacker and a legitimate Top 10 player at his position within the class. This ranking reflects my belief that Gooseby’s recruitment will eventually catch up to the player I see on film.

Physically impressive for an incoming freshman. Extraordinary muscular build with the lateral agility to get to get to the ball carrier anywhere on the field.

I can see him playing as a linebacker, safety, and some skill position on offense. At linebacker, he shows the athleticism to chase plays all over the field.
