Avelar has been one of PRZ’s top ranked 2027 QB’s since his freshman year and recently pulled in his first D1 offer from Sacramento State. 6’2” 205 lbs. he’s possesses a great skillset for the position that combines his natural passing ability with his athleticism and playmaking. He’s an instinctual dual-threat QB that has great feel and awareness to improvise and create something out of nothing. Excellent mobility to maneuver the pocket and manipulate pressure. He’s able to escape to either direction while keeping his eyes downfield to either find an open target or tuck it and run. Smooth arm action with plus strength to maintain velocity when throwing from off balance platforms. His footwork and mechanics are clean in the pocket. He’s a competitor and a great playmaker that uses his athleticism as a weapon to be productive and move the chains. Expect more offers to come in as the cycle progresses.

Gained some experience as a freshman where he flashed his versatility and potential to be one of the state’s top 2027 QB’s. Great natural ability and feel for the game with a strong 6’2” 200 lb. frame. A true dual-threat that can attack defenses with his arm or his legs. Shows a great ability to evade pressure and create plays when protection breaks down. Possesses natural arm strength delivering velocity and zip at the short/intermediate levels and the distance/trajectory needed to push the ball vertically. Size and strength make him tough to bring down whether in the pocket or when he pulls it down to tuck it and run. He’ll be on a lot of college’s radar throughout the rest of his high school career.

Got a glimpse of his playmaking ability and potential as a freshman getting varsity time in 2023. At 6’2” 200 lbs. he’s an exciting player to watch with his dual-threat skillset and improvisation. An excellent athlete that has great awareness and feel for the game to escape pressure. Extremely tough to bring down in the backfield given his strength and mobility in the pocket. Natural arm strength gives him added velocity at the short/intermediate levels and vertical depth to stretch the field. At his best when he’s able to create and use his legs, has good speed and can run through contact while maintaining forward momentum. Projected to be near the top of 2027 QB’s in the state over the next several years.

is another quarterback out of the class of 2027 that everyone needs to know about. Coming out of the Grand Canyon State, Matthew stands just over 6 feet tall and measures to be about 190 pounds. On tape, Avelar can make plays in the pocket or on the run which makes him dangerous. Matthew has an elusive nature to him, which allows him to work at a high level under pressure. When he is scrambling, he has the ability to keep his eyes downfield and find an open receiver when he needs to. Matthew has also proven that he will not force a throw if there is nothing there, with that he also shows his ability to make plays with his legs and break away from the defense if he find open field. Matthew is very gifted as a quarterback. With him checking all of the boxes as a field general, it won’t be long until he starts getting recognized by some of the big time college football programs around the country. Matthew is an athlete that everyone should get excited as he is trending towards to top end of 2027 quarterbacks in Arizona.

While we have talked about a pair of dual-threat Quarterbacks in this writeup thus far, Avelar is most of your typical Pro-Style prospect. Already standing 6-foot-1 and 190-pounds, he’s a big kid with a crazy strong arm that pushes the ball downfield. All that said, he’s certainly no statute. He has played Wide Receiver in the past and has the athletic ability to keep the chains moving with his legs. He plays for the Tucson Scorpions and has a number of talented guys around him that he spreads the ball around to. The younger brother of Ricardo Avelar III, who is currently playing at Dayton, and is a former four-time AZFCA (Arizona Football Coaches Association) All-Arizona selection. The little brother is already the size of his Division 1 older brother and the ceiling is just as high.
