Marcus Turpin Marcus Turpin 6'3" | 165 lbs | ATH Gilman School | 2027 State MD ‘s athleticism jumps off the screen immediately on film. He plays receiver and safety and is a threat whenever the ball is in the air in his area. He high points the ball well and has the ability to win 50/50 catches. He also does a good job using tempo in his route running to create separation. Defensively at safety, Turpin shows he can do it all, he reads the quarterback quickly in zone, can stick with his man in man coverage, and comes downhill to make tackles for short gains in the run game. Turpin currently holds 10+ offers, including Ivy League programs like Harvard University and Yale University, along with offers from Michigan State University and James Madison University.

Easily one of the most impressive risers of the year, Marcus jumps over 100 spots from his pre-season ranking. He really turned it up a notch this fall and has propelled himself as a no brainer P4 player. For the recent rankings update Marcus lands at #35 overall and the #4 ATH, being a game changer at both WR and FS.

From Game 1 of this year Marcus was making a strong impression. At WR he can make the spectacular catch, winning 50/50 balls and going up over top defenders to snatch the pass. At Safety he displays excellent instincts, knows when to break on the play and has a nose for the ball. Not afraid to run the alley to make the tackle or lay a hit on WRs across the middle either.

A natural athlete and playmaker, Marcus made of the most of his junior season. Hence the more than deserved big rankings jump as he has developed into one of the top prospects in the state. Marcus currently holds double digit offers from P4s to IVY schools and I can see more power conference schools offering as they get eyes on him this spring/summer.

Marcus balled out for Gilman on both sides of the ball in their game this past week versus Boy’s Latin. He was responsible for 2 of the teams 3 total TDs. His first came on defense – he baited the QB, jumped the route and got a key pick six right before the half to flip momentum and give Gilman the lead. In the 3rd quarter Marcus made a nice athletic catch on offense after beating the defender deep and rising up to get the ball.

An high level dynamic playmaker, Marcus possesses loose hips, nice burst & acceleration and is an excellent leaper. He holds 2 offers currently from JMU and Towson. I think he is a no brainer FBS/FCS kid and if he continues to perform like he did this past week all season he will be a strong P4 look kid.

Turpin received his first offer from James Madison on May 19th. He also has an offer from Towson.

What I’m looking to see from him this upcoming season: What makes the fact that he currently has two Division I offers impressive is that he has limited highlights from his sophomore year. He has shown enough potential to warrant those offers. Turpin lines up at both wide receiver and safety for his team and is also on special teams. What I want to see from him is for him to take that next step and show more of what he’s capable of doing on the field this upcoming season. He has the measurables and athleticism to excel at both positions for Gilman.
