One of the biggest recruiting storylines and best overall narratives of the first-ever NDSU FBS Prospect Camp came out of the Show-Me State and more specifically, the seemingly always-talented Lee’s Summit area. PrepRedzone had just seen Lee’s Summit North CB Logan Mayfield tear up the North Dakota Flagship Camp a few days ago in Grand Forks, and the sticky, athletic man-coverage specialist brought the momentum into Fargo with intentions of a scholarship offer on his mind.
Well, consider that box checked, as Mayfield not only left with an offer from North Dakota State but as a Bison commit to boot. Mayfield has been the past cover corner PRZ has seen in the thousands of prospects we’ve laid eyes on this summer, with great size, the needed athleticism and competitiveness for the position, and rare comfortability and effectiveness in man coverage. Besides the basic foundational skills of a successful CB such as speed, quickness, instincts, and ball skills, Mayfield’s anticipation, route recognition, and effective breaks consistently produced easy, smooth, and impressive PBUs and INTs. He seemed to be running routes for WRs, and was consistently cutting off, catching, and playing with physicality and overall effectiveness at the top of the route. Great patience, more than able to stay in phase with receiver’s working vertically, always seemed to be in good body positioning, and was undercutting with noticeably clean angles. A big weekend in Fargo sure paid off for this Missouri product.

The Show-Me State churned out one of the best performers from North Dakota’s First Flagship Camp of the summer. No surprises either, as this stud came from the always-stacked Lee’s Summit area of the Kansas City metro and Lee’s Summit North High School. Rising senior Logan Mayfield was an Alpha Dog during 1v1, putting together and outstanding performance that highlighted some hard-to-find comfortability in man coverage and press man as well. Mayfield was an impressive combination of size, quickness, and speed, but the nuance of his coverage ability was especially impressive and is what produced the best and stickiest DB performance of the Session 2. Mayfield’s size, physicality, and hand-fighting ability was constantly disrupting and impacting wideouts throughout their route, and Mayfield generally seemed like he knew what route was coming, plus his calm, competitive demeanor had him stepping up for rep after rep, especially against the best wideouts there. His deep speed, as well as comfortability playing the deep ball and overall ball skills were shining through impressively in Grand Forks. I’m a big fan of Missouri high school football and prospects like Mayfield are a great representation as to why. Show-Me State kids are real-deal athletic and thrive in competition.

Mayfield plays corner and safety, and measured in at 5110 166 in the camp setting Summer 2025 with a 4.66×40. Currently the DB is listed at 6000 to 6010, self reports a 4.47 laser timed 40, and ran a verified 22.44 200m time in Spring 2025, translating to a low 4.5 40 yard time. The track twitch and explosivity translates to the football field. Mayfield is oily in the hips. He shows good acceleration out of his break, and reacts well to the ball at the catch point. Coming downhill, there is notable lateral agility and closing burst. He evades blockers using his athletic ability. The athletic tool groundwork sets him with a solid floor at corner. Leadership and football intelligence materializes in presnap communication. Thus far, Mayfield picked up a Division II offer and should see interest rise headed into the season.
