We begin the Northeast 2023 preview with the two prospects presumed to headline the quarterback position, with leader Sabor Stevens moving on to the next level. Tough shoes to fill, although Juniors Mahir Jordan Mahir Jordan 5'11" | 160 lbs | ATH North East | 2025 State PA and Lamont Brown Lamont Brown 6'0" | QB Martin Luther King | 2025 PA are more than capable enough to fill said shoes.
We begin with Mahir Happy Jordan, a promising prospect who has tape to his name. Although Stevens led the way last Fall for the Vikings, Jordan still got reps behind center. Dual-threat, although he needs to make strides as a passer, Mahir Jordan Mahir Jordan 5'11" | 160 lbs | ATH North East | 2025 State PA is expected to provide a wide range of skills that the Viking coaching staff can work around. He’s capable of throwing the football, he is far from clueless behind center. He can see and read the middle of the field well, Jordan hits timing routes well, often hitting the out-breaking routes in Flood concepts promptly. He’s going to be able to distribute the ball to his weapons, yet we know there is more to playing the position than that. Jordan is going to have to make strides between the ears, with a new offensive system, moreso new vernacular to work with, this is tough for any quarterback at any level to deal with. Jordan will likely rely on his athleticism, which makes complete sense. The Viking coaching staff will likely lean into that notion, as it’s an area of comfort for Jordan, as well as some of the members of the offensive line. Read-option sets are likely to be used, again, a comfort area for Jordan. He can work with four/five wideouts split out, widening up the front seven will provide more space to work with. Jordan will eventually be ranked, expected to do so before the season begins.
Lamont Brown Lamont Brown 6'0" | QB Martin Luther King | 2025 PA Jr., formerly out of MLK, is a kid I had high hopes for dating back 2 and a half years ago. Those high hopes are still there, especially considering the opportunity he has in front of him. The 2023 Viking class is long gone, I hope he, as well as every other prospect on this list, understands the opportunity presented to them. This football team is likely looking for a leader beyond the coaching staff to provide confidence heading into the Fall, that can be Jordan or Lamont. Brown brings a vastly different approach to the quarterback position. Although athletic in his own right, where Brown will likely provide value is in his build. Now 6’3, 215, Brown will provide a much more stable pocket, with a likely intent to stretch the field with his arm.
Coach Nase and staff have an interesting twosome to work with here, both are likely to see the field, both are likely to place on our ranks before the season begins. Excited to see what both prospects bring to the table.
