Bishop Montgomery linebacker Kenneth Goodwin III Kenneth Goodwin III 6'2" | 215 lbs | LB Bishop Montgomery | 2026 CA announced his commitment to SMU on Tuesday.

Goodwin was at Narbonne last season after playing his sophomore season at Desert Pines High in Nevada.

He also had offers from Alabama, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State and USC among others. Goodwin is the fourth player from California in SMU’s 2026 recruiting class and the first linebacker.

Goodwin checks in as a top five LB in PRZ’s latest update to the 2026 rankings. The 6’2″/215 senior out of Bishop Montgomery just narrowed down his top five to Oregon, Michigan, Georgia, Texas A&M, and SMU in late May with a commitment date set for July 1. He was one of the top-ranked defenders in Nevada after his freshman season before transferring to Narbonne prior to his sophomore year. He’s a versatile front-seven defender that can make rangy plays off the ball and create negative plays coming off the edge. Packs great speed and physicality as a tackler and possesses the athleticism to be high-level playmaker at the next level. Goodwin just finished an official visit with Georgia and has other OVs lined up with Michigan (6/13) and Oregon (6/20) this month.

Goodwin continues to ascend the national LB ranks after clearly establishing himself as the top LB prospect in Nevada’s 2026 class. Desert Pines’ sophomore LB is a well-rounded, versatile defender that showed great physicality and mobility as an off-ball defender and can rush the passer with speed and athleticism off the edge. He beats OTs to the spot with an explosive first step as an edge rusher and patrols the middle of the field from his ILB spot with sideline-to-sideline range and closing speed. Goodwin’s continued to add to his impressive offer list with Notre Dame, Texas A&M, and Syracuse offering in recent months.

Kenneth received offers from Ole Miss and Arkansas this month so be on the lookout for more to come rolling in next year. Kenneth’s rare combination of power and acceleration continues to impress in his sophomore film. Good closing speed and a fluid change of direction gets displayed tackling ball carriers in space. Kenneth shows good instincts and quickness redirecting to pick the ball off as an underneath zone defender. Good flexibility, strength, and explosiveness gives Kenneth the chance to develop as a pass rusher before his high school career ends.
