Almost tripling his carries from his sophomore season, Keaton Gates Keaton Gates 5'8" | 145 lbs | RB/DB West Branch | 2027 State IA ran the ball 36 times for 165 yards and a score last year. This season, Gates is the top rusher in Class 2A with fewer than 100 carries, having rushed for 872 yards and ten scores on 97 touches.

Thanks to those numbers, Gates ranks second in yarder per carry (9 yards), is tied for 8th in rushing touchdowns and finds himself fourth in total rushing yards in 2A.

In addition to his offensive efforts, Gates has put together 18 tackles in 2025.

Gates caught my eye last season with his defensive performance against rival Regina when I scouted that game. When I returned for the next installment of the great series in Week 2 of 2025, he looked like a prospect in both sides of the ball. In addition, he flashed potential as a return man. On offense, Gates rushed for 96 yards on 14 carries against a stingy defense. He’s a patient and tough runner with some giddy-up. Gates led the Bears with 9.5 total tackles and seven stops for loss. The physicality that aids him with the ball in his hands certainly shines through on defense. Gates is a good athlete with speed and versatility. Colleges would be wise to monitor his progress.
