Expert Analysis
Cole Laing | Prep Redzone Scout
Currently holds a number of Division 1 offers, most notably from Tennessee, West Virginia, Virginia Tech, and South Carolina among others. Very good height and athleticism with very good balance, flexibility, change of direction, short-area-quickness, speed, and good acceleration. Good release off the ball with good transition into his route stem. Very good separation quickness using his speed, change of direction, and short-area quickness at the top of his route. Very good hands and body control to bring in the catch. Shows strength and balance as a runner. Willing blocker on run plays and downfield after the catch.

Patterson has tallied 30 receptions for 720 yards and seven scores. He hasn’t composed an entire film yet, but I watched his games against Cox, Ocean Lakes, Bayside, and Green Run High Schools. He turned it on against Green Run, where he had a pair of touchdowns—one coming deep and the other in the red zone. His highlights show him taking out a cornerback outside, demonstrating his effectiveness as an off-the-ball blocker. I’ll reserve a complete evaluation until I get the additional tape. Still, with well over ten college offers already—Charlotte, Duke, East Carolina, South Carolina, Syracuse, and Virginia Tech, among others—Patterson appears to be the real deal.

. One of the more sought-after underclassmen pass-catchers the state of Virginia has to offer. 6’4, 180 pounds, the incoming sophomore already holds offers out of UConn, Syracuse, South Carolina, West Virginia, Indiana, and UNC Charlotte, just to name a few. A top ten prospect, one that is unlikely to leave that top ten threshold moving forward. Patterson has a top five overall ceiling. Having a young man who can stretch the field like Patterson can, opposing DCs with Salem on schedule likely have their first headache. Attacking vertically is an obvious choice, you’d love to make use of this kid’s stride, yet much of Patterson’s freshman tape has him eating within 15 yards of the line of scrimmage. A comfortable target, a wide frame to throw balls into, this is a kid who can dominate inside of 15 when tasked with running slants, hitches, outs. Get him the ball, he’s a tough runner who’s big enough to drag the average DB for first downs. Excited to see sophomore tape out of Patterson this coming December.

does not play to his level he plays the game like he’s a senior at receiver. Patterson is downright explosive with the ball in his hands, at 6’4 and 180 lbs. he runs like a Power five football player. Close to 10 offers and counting he will be a downfield threat/nightmare in Class 5.
