Tillis has a background as a receiver which made him stand out during the one-on-one period against the linebackers. He is one of the faster backs in the class and he has put on significant muscle since I saw him last spring.

Tillis ran for 1543 yards with 19 touchdowns for a Los Alamitos team that won the Division 2 championship.
I was very impressed with Tillis’ speed at the National Preps Showcase last spring as a receiver and was surprised to see him play running back for Los Alamitos last season, but he thrived and earned All-County honors. His field vision impressed me for a guy who was expected to be a receiver and although he has track level speed, he’s a very patient runner through the first two levels. Tillis has the burst to be gone once he gets past the second level and can cause mismatches in the passing game if teams try to cover him with linebackers.

Versatile, explosive ATH with a legit two-sport motor that shows up everywhere you line him up — 5’11”/190 lbs frame that’s already filled out nicely and built to take the hits at the next level. Junior yr was loaded with big-play production (1,236 rush yards, 210 carries, 16 TDs on the ground alone, plus receiving and defensive snaps), and you see the same sudden burst that makes him a track sprinter for the Griffins. Kid has vision to hit the hole as a RB, reliable hands and YAC ability out of the slot or boundary at WR, and he’ll drop into the box at LB or SS and play downhill with physicality. Track background gives him that extra gear in the open field. Still can tighten up route polish and add a little more bulk in the weight room, but the competitive toughness, production, and athleticism scream “immediate contributor Grade: Solid ATH with if he keeps developing — the kind of dual-sport kid coaches fight over because he impacts the game on offense, defense, and special teams right away. One to watch climb boards fast as a senior.

Tillis brings an impressive skillset to the WR position. 5’11” 185 lbs. he combines his physicality and strong hands with sharp route execution and playmaking ability after the catch. He consistently creates separation by selling his routes with creative stems and moves. Snaps off his routes with suddenness and control showing the ability to break defenders at the top of the route and win one on one matchups. Catches the ball cleanly and confidently using strong and quick hands to secure tough grabs with defenders closing in. After the catch, he’s aggressive and elusive capable of making defenders miss in space or powering through arm tackles to extend gains. Has performed extremely well at off season camps and showcases. Carries three D1 offers going into his junior year but expect to see his offer count on the rise this season.
3 Offers: San Diego State, Delaware State, Hawaii

Tillis was a candidate for MVP in my opinion and was wide open for most of the day. He has good burst at the top of the route and defenders were biting on every move he made. Tillis looks bigger than the size he is listed at and was a tough cover for the defensive backs.
