Watkins is a quick, high IQ prospect, who moves well given his size. He is an excellent tackler, and shows elite strength. He can plug run lanes with ease, and showcases an elite ability to play in both Zone/Man Schemes.

What was even more surprising was Watkins has the talent to play as an LB, which he did on multiple occasions. Henceforth, he will block shed with quickness and power in the run game while taking good pursuit angles. Reading and reacting with timing was a major point for Watkins that allowed him to succeed. Another key point is that he did spend time as a QB. Big-time throws, accuracy, and athleticism outside the pocket were evident.

Additionally, Watkins is a standout, being versatile enough to come down in the box with excellent field vision to sniff out runs as an LB. The aggressive pursuit and ability to shoot through gaps to make TFLs was outstanding. Balance against WRs and TEs in coverage is a separating factor. Further, he did have reps at QB, where his passing accuracy was on display. The arm strength and velocity to push the ball down the field are portrayed.

Watkins is another potential QB/ATH but I think his best projection is at the LB or Rover position where his 6’3 205lb frame as a sophomore is very intriguing for coaches at the next level.

Watkins shows explosive movements all over his tape. A willing tackler, he shows he can be a physical player coming downhill and attacking blockers and ball carriers. I was impressed with his ball skills. Although I see him trending toward the LB position, his physical development could land him at EDGE or SAF alternatively, and that is just defensively.
