is a dominant defensive end out of Benjamin Russell that has established himself as a serious force in the trenches and as one of the top talents in the state’s 2027 class. Spivey is unblockable, and it was easy to see this past week against Charles Henderson when the sophomore continued to dominate the line of scrimmage in his team’s 29-0 shutout win. At 6’2 230 Spivey can move around the field extremely well- he’s a consistent threat against the run, as a pass rusher, and really all over the field with how well he sheds blocks, finds the ballcarrier, and makes plays. If you watched Benjamin Russell last Friday you’d see how easy it was for Spivey to do these things- he ended the game with 5 total tackles (3 solo, 2 assisted, 2 for loss), 4 quarterback hurries, and a blocked punt. It’s been really impressive watching what Spivey’s been able to accomplish in year two- he’s a talented player who is going to end up as one of the top DL recruits in not just the state, but the nation as well. Be sure to watch him throughout the rest of this season, he’s bound to showcase more performances like this one!

Spivey shows discipline and patience in his reads/run fits. Does a nice job of keeping his shoulders square and locking out blockers in the run game. Bends at the knees and shows solid contact balance. Locates the ball well and can shed when appropriate. Able to play the read-option. Has a wide tackling radius. Uses a good straight-arm under the chin to create separation off the edge as a pass-rusher. Calibrates rushes to avoid getting too much depth or making him a liability in the run game. Able to force quarterbacks to climb and then shed blockers to come back inside. Flashes the ability to generate pressure with inside moves. Generally plays from a tight alignment but can run past some tackles from a wider technique.

Spivey plays the game with physicality, urgency, and toughness. Explosive movement skills. Sets a hard edge in the run game. Gets good extension to lock out opponents, with heavy hands to discard; has the lower-body strength to anchor at the line. Plays with discipline on the back end. Bull rush can give opposing blockers trouble on passing downs. Excellent leg drive on his bull rush to walk back opposing linemen; functional strength is much better than his size would suggest. Predominantly a power-based approach, but shows the first step to threaten the edge. Excellent closing burst to finish when he finds a lane.

Spivey’s ability to disrupt plays and apply consistent pressure on quarterbacks makes him a true nightmare for opposing offenses and their linemen. So far this season Spivey’s stat sheet reflects that dominance- he’s totaled up 28 total tackles (including 13 solo tackles and 5 tackles for loss) with an additional 4 sacks.
