Mitchell brings the type of athletic profile that fits well in today’s faster defensive schemes. He diagnoses plays quickly and wastes little time getting downhill, rarely showing false steps when reacting to run concepts. Once he identifies the play, his closing speed allows him to cover ground quickly and make plays outside the tackle box.
His sideline-to-sideline range and open-field tackling ability make him particularly valuable against perimeter runs and screens. Mitchell consistently arrives under control and finishes tackles reliably in space. With his combination of instincts and modern linebacker athleticism, he projects as a defender capable of affecting plays all over the field.

This is personally my first look at Mitchell, who is covered in our 2027 rankings draft in AL. Mitchell is very much a hybrid style player, spending plenty of time as a big nickel. He flashes the athleticism needed to get by with typical DB responsibilities, but his support in the run game and ability to come downhill stick out the most. He is explosive downhill, has the bend and flexibility to dart around blockers, and uses his length to cast a wide net as a tackler and trip up ball carriers in space. Mitchell has a niche playstyle, which I actually think will benefit his recruitment down the stretch here.

is a talented junior LB from Moody who helped create a ton of stops in their state title run last fall.
“Mitchell is an instinctual linebacker who can get downhill and defend the run and also provide reliable coverage on passing downs. He’s quick on his feet, can cover in space, and has the play recognition and IQ to identify and disrupt plays all over the field.
I’m really impressed with how quickly Mitchell closes in on the ball carrier. He can make some really impressive hustle plays in pursuit, especially against the run. I think Mitchell’s best trait is his versatility on defense. He’s really reliable in coverage and is an aggressive tackler in the run game- I’m excited to watch him in 2026.”
Mitchell made a ton of great plays last season and put together some great tape in the process. If you haven’t watched him before, make sure you check out some of his clips below:
