Expert Analysis
Josh White | Prep Redzone Scout
Rutledge thrives when the ball finds him, operating as a true run-after-catch threat who can turn routine touches into explosive plays. His burst and one-cut ability make him dangerous on quick hitters like slants, bubbles, and designed touches. Once he gets into space, he’s difficult to square up and brings real big-play potential.
What elevates his profile is his ability to win beyond just YAC situations. He shows strong body control and tracking ability, adjusting to off-target throws and finishing through contact at the catch point. There’s a competitiveness in how he attacks the football that stands out on tape. Wren’s versatility as both a space player and contested catch option makes him a valuable offensive weapon moving forward.

This dude right here is a true impact player. It didn’t take long to find Rutledge, who is stout, strong, and a contributor at each level of the field. An explosive, but fluid mover with easy access to each level of the field, giving him easy opportunities to settle down and make routine catches. However, he made arguably the catch of the tournament in the afternoon, leaping up through traffic and making a circus grab for a score. Explosiveness, body control, and sheer playmaking ability were put on full display today.

Rutledge thrives when the ball’s in his hands — a run-after-catch specialist who turns routine plays into explosives. His burst, one-cut ability, and elusiveness make him dangerous on slants, bubbles, and designed touches in space. He’s also shown the ability to high-point the football and adjust to off-target throws with impressive body control, adding another layer to his playmaking ability. As defenses tighten in the postseason, his ability to generate offense after the catch and win contested balls makes him a true X-factor

Jalijah Rutledge Jalijah Rutledge 6'0" | 185 lbs | WR/RB Moody | 2027 State AL is an explosive WR who’s really taken off this fall, making a huge impact on his team’s passing attack.
“Rutledge is a really impressive route runner who can burn DBs all over the field. He has some great releases off the line of scrimmage and can quickly gain separation downfield to make huge plays.
Rutledge also really impressed me with his blocking downfield- he’s a physical WR who isn’t afraid to make contact, and consistently helped his teammates by blocking and opening up space for them.“
Rutledge was terrific against Springville this week. He hauled in 4 receptions for 114 yards and one TD.
I’ve loved watching Rutledge this season. He’s taken his game to a whole other level and continues to make plays each week. See for yourself below:

Moody’s been finding a lot of early success, and Rutledge is a big reason why. He’s a complete WR who presents tons of issues to opposing secondaries. Make sure you watch some of his film below:

Jalijah Rutledge Jalijah Rutledge 6'0" | 185 lbs | WR/RB Moody | 2027 State AL is a really talented defensive back out of Moody who was super productive throughout his freshman season last fall. Rutledge lines up at safety and can provide terrific coverage over the top of the field. He plays with a ton of speed, instincts, and pursuit that allows him to make impact plays all across the field, regardless of where he initially lines up pre-snap. Rutledge is really good in run support- he is great at tracking and bringing down the ball carrier in the open field and down by the line of scrimmage. In coverage, Rutledge can bait quarterbacks into bad decisions and capitalizes frequently by using his hands to make plays on the ball. All of this was easy to see throughout his freshman season, he ended the year with 32 total tackles (19 solo) and one interception. Rutledge is already a big-time contributor to Moody’s defense as an underclassman and is set up for a big sophomore season this fall. Be sure to watch him and Moody this season, they’re bound to have a good year!
