I have long loved Bunke as a runningback prospect, and he’s also started to pick up steam as a linebacker as well. One of his most appealing attributes has to be his speed, he’s often the fastest athlete on the field, and with the ball in his hands, he’s an incredibly dangerous offensive threat. If you get Bunke 1-on-1 on the outside, it’s a recipe for success. Bunke needs more love as a prospect because he can present a lot of problems for defenses at the next level.

Bunke has great anticipation when attacking the line of scrimmage from his linebacker position. Sometimes, it looks like he was in the offensive huddle and already knows the snap count. His quickness often allows him to beat linemen to the punch and get an angle on them – making him tough to square up. When he gets to a ball carrier, he tackles ball carriers with plenty of aggression. Although he looks out of control because of his aggression, Bunke can break down immediately and get in position to make solid tackles. Like he plays on defense, as a running back, Bunke is best when he can make one cut and explode upfield. Mainly a threat in the running game, the junior can also catch out of the backfield.

The 5’7, 175 lber. recorded 727 rushing yards and 7 TDs to go along with 25 tackles, 7 TFLs, 2 INTs, and a sack in 2022. A speedy little jitterbug of a ball carrier who sees the field well and can beat tackle attempts with his footwork, stiff arm, and even a truckstick here and there, Bunke also laid some big hits on kickoff coverage and is a tough player in all three phases of the game. Defensively, he shoots gaps and can pursue to the edge like his hair is on fire, easily sprinting by slower block attempts and into a RB/QBs hips for a good tackle. Pound-for-pound he’s a thumper, and I am looking forward to see him lay the wood after another year in the weight room.

Jonah showed off that burst I have been waiting to watch in-person late in the 1v1s reps at the Winona State prospect camp. He also showed an impactful change of direction with his route-running at the Warriors camp. You could just tell by the reps, that Jonah’s instinctive nature on his routes will resonate well when he gets into the 2022 season and can show off his craft as an incoming sophomore for Rushford-Peterson. He’s not the biggest guy on both sides oft he ball, but I love this kid’s determination with his vision on both sides of the ball. From the linebacker spot, Jonah uses all that burst we saw at the Winona camp and creates chaos in the backfield when he’s left unblocked. He demonstrates good downhill ability on all three field levels as it creates substantial leverage, especially on defense and special teams. If there was a young prospect that was all about the competitive motor vs. size, Jonah would fit that narrative 100%. Excited to see what this young man can do for R-P in his upcoming sophomore season, as there is a lot of juice in Jonah’s tank that is yet to be seen.
