About Johnny

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I use my speed and strength to play aggressively on both sides of the football. Started every varsity high school game as a freshman at safety and led the region in interceptions. I have a lot of experience on offense as a RB and SB as well as special teams on kickoffs and punt returns. I think I have the ability to score any time I get the ball in my hands.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I learned from Coach CJ Scott from my years as a Central VA Hurricane to be humble but play aggressively. For many seasons other teams tried to get me into fights or lure me into trouble so they could get me out of the game. It never worked, and made me much tougher and more disciplined.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I've been playing high level football since I was 12 years old. Started FBU, then played fall / spring football for the CVA Hurricanes for 12-U, 13-U and 14-U. Played in multiple regional and national tournaments & was ranked top 25 ATH nationally by multiple organizations. Started every game as a freshman safety at Midlothian, led region in INT's, all metro honorable mention as freshman.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

I am a leader on the field because of my experience playing the best youth teams around the country. I always work hard at practice and lead by example. I was lucky at a young age to have a lot of film, and little kids knew who I was at football tournaments, so I learned to be humble and show gratitude for the attention that I received.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

Many of my friends and teammates play together at Huguenot. I miss playing with them but I am very lucky to be able to play football with my brother Bryce Sowers (2025) for two seasons.
