In terms of uncommitted 2027 talent, Joey Massey Joey Massey 6'2" | 230 lbs | TE/EDGE Notre Dame | 2027 State WI is one of the best available in the city of Green Bay and the entire state. The 6’2″ 230 lbs TE/Edge was a force for the team on both sides of the ball while they made a run to a State appearance. It is no surprise to see him earn an FBS offer recently from Central Michigan. I expect several other offers to come along in the coming weeks.
On the offensive side of the ball, Joey has developed into a fantastic mismatch at TE. He is able to get quick and clean releases off the line and his acceleration plus top end speed give him a major advantage in stretching the field up the seam. He does a great job of tracking the football and easily can adjust to it in flight. Joey can also stay on the field with the power he possesses as a run blocker. He is able to turn his burst off the line into power and run is feet through DL and bury them.
On the defensive side of the ball you see that same balanced skill set shine. He can transition speed into power and an effective bull rush. The speed is there to be able to cross the face of the OT and win inside. He also plays with great awareness on the edge, taking on blocks with the right angles at the last minute or getting hands up in passing lanes. Joey just finds a way to always be making a positive impact for his team.

Joey was a key contributor on both sides of the ball for Notre Dame on their way to a State appearance. The ’27 TE has built a strong and very explosive 6’2″ 230 lbs frame. Joey is able to fly off the line like a WR and threaten defenses up the seam with his vertical speed. That speed paired with som savvy route running has allowed him to kill the defense on play action play calls. He caps off his receiving prowess by having very reliable hands and the concentration to be able to reel in the ball through traffic and contact. With his skill set as a receiving threat you wouldn’t think he was as impactful blocking, but Joey uses that quick burst off the snap to create speed to power in the trenches where he was able to make a surprising amount of positive surge against DL. Don’t sleep on the versatile and very talented 2027 TE/DE.

It wasn’t a crazy stat line, but Joey still made his presence felt. His one reception was a deep crossing route where he made the catch in front of the defender and finished the play strong. His big impact on offense was an a run blocker. The power, the quickness to win the position and leverage battle, and the high motor made him look more like an extra OL instead of a TE. On defense Joey did well off the edge. He got plenty of pressure on the QB with his speed, bend, and use of length as a pass rusher. Joey also did a great job of getting his hands up to knock down multiple passes. Joey proved his versatility this season.

Joey is one of the keys to success on both sides of the ball for Notre Dame. On offense he is an excellent TE who dominates with his run blocking. His ability to reset the line of scrimmage into the second level or provide a mismatch in the passing game will be key for the offense. The junior has been a breakout on defense this season too. He has been getting penetration, disrupting, showing that range to chase down the ball. The kid is tough for OTs to stay in front of. He has 16 TFLs and 4 sacks on the season to go along with his 321 yards receiving and 3 TDs. Watch this kid closely Friday. He is a special talent.

Stats: 7 Tackles, 4 TFLs, 1 Sack, 1 INT
I have been a huge fan of Joey as a TE recruit. However, the 2027 made big time plays with his performance at DE last Friday. The first two plays alone were very impressive. First he almost flattens a pulling OL with the pop he delivers while setting the edge. Then he shows off that quick burst to get to the RB in space on the 2nd defensive snap. The INT came off great awareness and equal athleticism as he jumped up while engaged with the OT to make the snag. His ability to play in space and corral the dual threat QB they faced off against was equally impressive. After watching this tape I legitimately believe that Joey could find success on either side of the ball. You need to check this kid out.

I have been excited about getting Joey into the rankings since coming across his highlights early this offseason. He had a great debut, coming in at TE4 overall. This is Joey’s year to take that next step. In 2024 the quick, strong athlete was utilized heavily as a run blocker. He was able to win the leverage/positioning battle with his quick feet and his leg drive was able to create that surge in the trenches that helped the team’s elite run game. This year we expect more of that, but also an influx of receptions as he takes over the TE1 position. Joey has the athleticism to put LBs in tough positions both before and after the catch. A big year is loading for the incoming junior.
