Gaston is a unique evaluation because there is an argument that he can be listed as QB and even play at the next level. However, I think his overall athleticism trumps any single position he could be listed at. The Iona Prep QB was effective as a pass and runner last year, and his ability to escape and extend plays with his arm or legs makes playing against Iona Prep so hard. I don’t often use the word elite, but Gaston has elite twitch and quickness. He can make guys miss and has the vision to navigate traffic as a runner.

. The transfer from St Joseph Regional had a huge junior season. He threw for 2,186 and 15 touchdowns. He was one of the most elusive players in this league and was an excellent running option for Iona Prep. Gaston had 739 yards and 9 touchdowns with his legs. He completed 70 percent of his passes and was in complete command of this Iona Prep offense that was rolling in the second half of the season.

and Iona Prep. Gaston totaled 4 touchdowns on the evening. 3 of them came on the ground and Gaston’s quick bursts and ability to battle through contact helped him succeed on the ground. He went 15-20 in the air and threw a touchdown to Steven Dowdy who had another huge game in his own right. Gaston’s ability to make smart and quick decisions helped flow this Iona offense to another successful outing and a 4th straight AAA championship appearance.

, former QB/ATH for St. Joseph Regional in New Jersey is now at Iona Prep. Gaston is limited in size but is easily one of the best athletes at the quarterback position group in the state. Gaston has a big arm but where he really excels is as a runner. Gaston has great speed and quickness and knows how to find running lanes after dropping back. Gaston is a true dual threat and the type of player who can create something out of nothing on a consistent basis.
