Expert Analysis
Michael Huntley | Prep Redzone Scout
Rex is likely a safety at the college level but he worked out with the receivers on Sunday and had a really strong showing. He has added some muscle since I saw him in the fall and seems faster too. Rex was catching everything and running good routes. He will be one of the best two-way players in the Section next season.

Rex was one of the best two-way players in Orange County last season regardless of class. The junior had 68 tackles, a forced fumble and five interceptions on defense while leading the team in receiving with 856 yards and 10 touchdowns.
He covers a ton of the field as a zone safety, mostly in two-high coverages. Rex closes to the ball quickly and can lay big hits on people on underneath routes. He can fly up the field to stop the run and has great instincts as a defender. Rex has offers from BYU, Boise State, Washington State and Arizona among others.

The junior is a bit of a do-everything player for San Clemente, and he had a hand in all three phases of the game Friday night. Rex, who plays receiver, defensive back and returns punts, was impressive on defense early on. He had the first highlight play of the game with an interception on an errant pass. His abilities in the return game stood out as well with his knack for being a slippery return man who can eat up yards on special teams.

Rex caught 35 passes for 509 yards with four touchdowns and had 26 tackles on defense.
He is a crisp route runner who consistently burns guys with stutter steps and double moves. His bread and butter routes are sluggos and hitch-and-go routes. As a defender and special teams player, he closes to the ball quickly and lays down big hits.
