Expert Analysis

Jones measures in at 6’1 250-pounds, playing defensive tackle and defense end for Eaglecrest. He had 35 total tackles (19 solo, 16 assisted), 22.5 TFL, 9 sacks, 19 QB pressures, 2 PD and 1 FF. He has good athletic ability due to very good acceleration, speed, lateral quickness, and good balance. Jones has very good initial quickness out of his stance. Very good hand speed to engage the OL first. Maintains a low pad level throughout. Very good hand strength and hand placement. Very good get off and block shedding. When lined up outside, very good bend around the edge. Powerful bull rush. Jones has relentless pursuit, not stopping till the ball carrier is in his hands. He’s patient on read options and RPOs not getting fooled. Jones is an exciting prospect with great athleticism.

Jones really caught my eye on both sides of the ball. He does a great job staying and wrapping tightly on stunts. Jones times up snaps very well with a great get off and would be a great fit on a Dline that likes to move and slant post snap. I love how explosive he is – out of his stance and through his acceleration. He shows some twitch and active hands. Javon also plays TE in which he has some serious ball skills and strong hands, adjusting to passes late outside of his frame. While Javon is so impactful on the Eaglecrest DL, part of me thinks he could also be a standout FB/H at the next level due to his explosiveness, physicality, and strong hands.

Jones is able to get off of blocks quickly, using his strength and speed to get hands off, collapsing the gap and causing the ball carrier to bounce. He does show the ability to chase the ball carrier down, rallying to the football and showing good hustle to get in on plays. He can get into the backfield and put pressure on the QB causing hurry ups as well. He is a player that will look to hit some camps this offseason to pop onto the radar and should be able to turn some heads.

Jones is a player that has the ability to set the edge and force plays back to his help. He has some quickness at this size and can bet his opponent with quick moves to the inside to create chaos in the backfield. He has a high motor and can chase plays down from the backside and is a player that help on special teams as well. He will be a player that will not be under the radar for long and should be a player to know moving forward.
