Williams is a player that I had the opportunity to watch up close and in person a few times during the season, and also saw a few times during the camp season. There are a few things that immediately and consistently popped to me when watching Williams. First is his get off. When at its best, few are better. This allows Williams to consistently beat his matchup with his speed when pass rushing – often harassing and breathing down quarterbacks’ neck. Williams also does a great job of getting hands on his matchup every time. Watching a few clips of film, Williams shows that he understands his role and assignment, playing the correct technique each time (spill vs. box for example). Williams absolutely hustles and has that burn to make every play.

Williams mobilizes into the backfield faster than the Minutemen did in 1776. How? With a tremendous get off. Williams had one of the twitchiest and most sudden get offs that I noticed amongst all defensive lineman in attendance. He leverages this to get an outstanding jump on offensive linemen, instantly getting them on skates. Williams possesses outstanding athleticism too. He was a combine leader with a 111.5″ broad jump – showing off how explosive and strong he is – and a 4.72 second 40-yard dash – showing how fast he is. Quickness and power: need I say more?

This was actually the second time I got to see Williams in person, first watching him perform at the AVC Mega Football Camp. From my previous notes it was more of the same… and then some. Williams’ speed and agility was on display from the opening whistle; but what made him shine in my eyes was the power he packs and unleashes. This manifested during kettlebell farmer walks – where Williams was practically running laps around others without even grimacing – and the 2-point medicine ball toss. Despite finishing second overall in the latter event, he was about 2 feet short of the leader and showed off the power his punch generates and the violent snap and ensuing force he possesses in his hips.
