I feel like I have been writing about Williams for a long time. He has been that good – even as far back as his sophomore year. Entering his senior year, he is one of the top running backs in the state. @NWahlScouting has a great write-up from the spring. Here is what I would add to Nate’s comments.
As a running back, Williams is the complete package. To call him a power back or a scat back would be short-selling the soon-to-be senior. He has good speed and balance. He has quick feet and can make multiple moves in a small space. With all that, he has the leg strength to blow through arm tackles and drag smaller tacklers for extra yardage. He has position flexibility as he lines up at the quarterback position in some formations. A two-way player, he has good range as a safety, and based on his running back attributes, you can make your own assumptions about how physical a defender he can be.

The Guillotine ranking – 2nd 189ArnWilliams is a great all-around athlete. On the mat, he took 5th in the 182AA weight class in last year’s state wrestling tournament and will be looking to get higher on the podium later this year. On the football field, it is easy to see the wrestler in the football player. On offense, his combination of speed, power, and balance makes him one of the best running backs in the state. He is as likely to sidestep a tackler with a quick move in the open field as he shows his balance bouncing off tacklers or his strength as he powers through tacklers. As a deep safety, he will not just lay back and play centerfield. He has good range against the pass, but he is most effective coming downhill, blowing up ball carriers, or dislodging the ball from a receiver.

Williams is a tough running back, recognized for his imposing size and impressive speed as a running back. His football IQ on the field is evident in his decision-making, understanding when to bounce runs to the outside and when to hit the inside lane. Williams possesses remarkable agility, allowing him to evade defenders and make them miss in one-on-one situations. Notably, he excels in getting to the edge of the defense and quickly turning upfield, showcasing a dynamic running style that utilizes the entire field. Additionally, his reliable hands in the receiving game contribute to his versatility as both a runner and a receiver. Williams stands out for his ability to power through arm tackles, showing a level of physicality that proves his effectiveness after contact.

One of my favorite RBs in the state, Aitkin’s 2025 5’11, 200 lber. Jacob Williams was a big part of the Gobbler’s 28-0 win over Rush City as he went for 17 carries for 118 yards and a TD that got called back, but where he really stood out was on the defensive side of the ball. Three tackles and three (!) INTs were a big reason Rush City couldn’t get any points on the board. Williams is legit!

If you’ve been reading my stuff for a while now, you’ll know I’m a huge fan of multi-sport athletes, and in particular, football + wrestling hybrids. Although you generally see it more commonly in linemen and linebackers, where it has a ton of benefits for both sports, it can make for some especially fun skill position prospects who add an added bit of physicality and toughness to positions on the gridiron where we generally see more finesse. A New Addition to the 2025 rankings update in Minnesota who fits this mold is Aitkin’s stud 5’11, 200 lb. RB

, earned All-District and District Offensive MVP honors last fall on the gridiron, as well as an All-Conference track & field nod, not to mention his 5th place finish in the 182AA state wrestling bracket as a sophomore. That’s a lofty awards list for a rising junior, and Williams has some serious game on the gridiron, where he debuted as our #61 overall ranked prospect and RB5. The Gobber’s RB1 is a dangerous blend of speed and strength, who owns powerful lateral cuts, good vision, and impressive contact balance that allows him to easily break through weaker tackle attempts at his upper and lower body. He’s got the speed to take advantage of space and daylight given to him by a defense and does a great job of setting up pursuers to create the space needed to make house calls with the rock. He made a ton of defenders look silly in 2022 and has some good feet that keep opponents guessing and keep them on their heels for when they do get a shot on him. I can’t wait to see what Williams can do in 2023, both on the gridiron and wrestling mat.
