About Jacob

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

My gameplay style would be described as a blend of size and speed. As a DE, a great deal of effort has been placed in developing my hand-fighting/close contact skills as it is important to prevent OT from getting their hands on me. As my body continues to develop and grow, I want to continue to focus on getting faster.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

As a 9th grader entering my first years of varsity football, my mentality is that of constant learning. I want to be absorb all the information and coaching that my coaches can give me. My personality is both fun, but also mature for my age. An example of this, is last year when I would go to workouts 2 hours before school started and catch a taxi to Middle School (8th grade).

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

In terms of clubs/activities that I am a part of, being a partner with our Special Olympics kids at the school is the most rewarding. I have a special place in my heart for these kids and want to make them feel that they are no different than any other kid. I have a friend Layne that is autistic. Throughout school, I made sure that he was not left out of anything, and never bullied in school.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

One quality that is important that I have developed is that of teamwork and being a protector. At a young age, and because I was bigger than my classmates, I was taught by my parents to never be a bully, but protect kids from being bullied. As a teammate, and competitor, sportsmanship is important. I will be the first player to help someone up, either from my team, or the opposing team.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

Growing up, I had a stutter. This was something that I attended speech class for in elementary school and have since grown out of it. However, I think the challenge that this presented taught me at a very young age that putting in extra work pays off and help me develop the work ethic I have today. It also created a soft spot in my heart for kids with disabilities.

What type of college are you looking for?

As a student-athlete, the type of college that I am looking for, would be a college that excels both academically and in athletics. My high school career is just beginning and as I grow and mature physically and mentally, I am sure my views will change in terms of what I would be looking for.
