is one of the most interesting athlete prospects that I’ve seen, with reports listing him as a QB, WR, DB, and return specialist, though he seemed to do a lot more last season on the ground. Swinea was often involved in the HB toss, or lined-up in wildcat formation running power-runs. Either way, Swinea was difficult to tackle, and showed great elusiveness and balance as he broke several long runs last season. His frame also made him the perfect option for the HB screen game, as runs route out of the backfield like a WR and can break into the open very easily. Swinea has recently committed to Sioux Falls, where he will take his multi-purpose talents to bolster the Cougars’ roster. Swinea should once against stand out in 2024 for Worthington as the team’s swiss-army knife.

Balance, agility, and vision are three requirements of a successful running back. Swinea’s strengths are in these areas. The way he can pick his way through the line and find open space at the second level stands out. The Trojans’ multi-positional player – he also plays defensive back and quarterback – is most effective when he can read the field and use his athletic ability. Once Swinea gets into the open field, he has that second gear that all top-skill position guys have. Defensively, his length and speed allow him to close on receivers and make a play on the ball.

Worthington’s stud junior RB Jacari Swinea has been on our radar about as long as anyone in the class and owns some of the most memorable tapes of the entire class. I word that was left imprinted in my head after breaking down Swinea’s film was “shifty”, and at 6’2, 180+ pounds, that’s a dangerous combination. I’m not the only person to be impressed by Swinea’s film and game as a prospect, as the three-sport athlete was one of the first juniors to hear from MSU-Mankato in the Mavs initial surge of offers to the 2025 class.
The 6’2, 180 lber. owns long legs help him cover noticeable ground with each step, and he also is flexible and can drop his hips and power down in the blink of an eye, which combined with the smooth timing of his cuts, sends opponents sprawling past him when he sticks his cleat in the ground and breaks laterally at the last second. There’s obvious and eye-catching twitch in his tackle-breaking ability, as well as balance, big-play speed, and a little bit of burst. He’s shifty and sudden and can cut on a dime, and defenders have no idea he’s about to cut by them until it’s too late and Swinea is cruising upfield and without a care of the broken ankles he’s left behind. The speed, change of direction ability, and explosiveness evident in Swinea’s junior reps were nicely validated at December’s PRzMN Stock-Up Showcase as well, as he posted a 40 in the 4.6s, a 9’6″ broad, and a 7.22 L-drill. The Worthington junior more than qualifies as “impressive in the open field.”

Swinea is another elite three-sport athlete. In addition to being a part of the Trojans’ sixth-place 4X400 relay team, he is a terror on the basketball court. Track and field is his second time making a multi-sport athlete list. Find out what I said about his basketball and football skills here.

132nd prephoops.com Swinea runs the ball from the traditional running back spot and as a Wildcat quarterback. His length and speed stand out immediately, but his ability to use those long strides and still make quick cuts in small spaces set him apart. His ability in the open field is especially evident when returning kicks – he returned one to the house in 2023. I wouldn’t say he is a power runner – speed and quickness are his best assets, but he will break a tackle if he isn’t squared up. He will also run a pass route and catch the ball out of the backfield. He is a two-way player and uses his length and instincts well as a deep safety. I couldn’t find updated statistics for Swinea on the basketball court, but he averaged 14 points a game early in the season for the Trojans.

The Worthington sophomore has already been on our radar for a while and continues to impress, keeping him firmly in the upper echelon of our rankings and most recently see him as RB2 and #19 overall. Swinea attended at impressed at our December PRzMN Stock-Up Showcase and already passes the eye test at a defined 6’1, 180 lbs. with more room to grow. He was a splash play machine last season, one of the best in the 2025 class overall, and was explosive with the ball in his hand as both a RB and kick returner. Hits the hole and follows his blocks well, shows good acceleration from a dead stop, and has speed at the top end to outrun pursuit angles when he hits daylight. I also like his contact balance and lower body strength, which allows him to break weaker tackle attempts at gain tough yardage when necessary. Swinea didn’t compete in testing during the PRzMN Showcase so I don’t have updated verified numbers, but the size and big play ability is an interesting combination and will help him perform well during the summer camp circuits.
