McKinstry transferred to Desert View to play out his sophomore year and made an immediate impact coming out of his mandated sit finishing with 52 tackles (42 solo) and four sacks in seven games. Possesses a projectable frame with good length and build for the position continuing to add good weight now at 6’3” 200 lbs. He’s a plus athlete with good reactionary quickness and game speed. He’s able to smoothly change directions and redirect based on ball carrier’s movement. Patient as he reads his keys and diagnoses the play but triggers quickly, showing he can plant and drive on the football to close space. Extremely active defender that plays fast and physical bringing heavy contact to every tackle using good leverage and pad level. Expect to see his recruiting take off this off season.

He’s an attacking defender at 6’2” 195 lbs. with the lateral speed and range to be a sideline to sideline playmaker. Plays with good eye discipline to read and react while triggering quickly to close space. Violent tackler that accelerates through contact to finish ball carriers to the ground aggressively.

Gregory Mckinstry III Gregory Mckinstry III 6'2" | 200 lbs | LB Desert View | 2028 State AZ is the kind of player who shows up all over the field — and usually around the football. At 6’0”, 175 pounds, he’s already built like a varsity vet and carries himself like one too. There’s a real maturity to the way he plays, especially on defense. His long arms and natural instincts give him an edge in coverage, and he’s just as comfortable shedding a block and making a tackle as he is tracking a ball in the air. What sets him apart is how well he processes the game. He sees things early and reacts with confidence, which is rare at this stage. He’s got the frame to grow into multiple positions and the movement skills to hold up wherever he lands. Whether it’s at corner, safety, or even taking a few snaps on offense, McKinstry has the IQ, physicality, and versatility to be a difference-maker.

McKinstry flashed good upside on both sides of the ball as a freshman on varsity for Catalina Foothills. His size, athleticism, and wide skillset allow him to play multiple positions on both sides of the ball including LB, DB, RB, and WR. 6’2” 185 lbs. he’s got a very projectable frame that is well-built while still holding added growth potential. He’s got natural movement skills and good all-around game speed showing in his change of direction and top end speed. Confident in his playmaking ability he attacks the ball at every position with good instincts and awareness. Finished the 2024 season with 60 tackles, four TFL, and two INT’s on defense and also had good production on offense both as a ball carrier and receiver. One to watch as he develops.

Doubling as a wideout who averages 15 yards per reception, Gregory Mckinstry III Gregory Mckinstry III 6'2" | 200 lbs | LB Desert View | 2028 State AZ does a nice job in coverage and can come down with just about anything he can get his hands on. His long arms help him both in defending the pass, and easily getting off blocks to attack the ball carrier. With 51 tackles on the year, there’s no doubt that he has a high football IQ that’s only growing with experience. His instincts and physicality make him a playmaker that offenses have to account for on every snap.
