It’s not very often that you’ll find a defensive back with the speed to stick with the faster receivers like glue and also have the physicality to be a real presence in the run game. Grant Dooling has that rare combination for Ironwood Ridge. Always willing to fight off blocks and head for the ball carrier when he sees the handoff, he packs a good punch in his 6’1″, 190lb frame flying across the field. The physicality shows up when he’s asked to be in press coverage where Dooling doesn’t let receivers off the line. The ability to flip his hips and not lose a step on his man really stands out throughout his tape. Dooling was already tied for second most interceptions in his class as a junior, and I could see that number taking a jump this season.
