Cathedral (LA) two-way star Gianni Haynes Gianni Haynes 5'10" | 168 lbs | WR Cathedral | 2027 State CA was offered by San Jose State on Thursday.

Haynes was a top performer at the Prep Redzone Stock Up Showcase in January and has top level speed. He had 423 yards offensively with two touchdowns, a kick return touchdown and nine pass deflections on defense. Haynes also has offers from Washington, Colorado State, Arizona and Cal among others.

Haynes proved to be one of the best and most versatile athletes at Sunday’s showcase earning top performer honors at both WR and DB positions. PRZ CA’s 11th-ranked wideout in the 2027 class dominated his 1v1 reps on both sides of the ball with his high level ball skills and athleticism and was a standout playmaker on defense for Cathedral last season. Haynes picked up offers from Arizona, Colorado St., and Sacramento St. in 2025 and figures to add to that list with the versatile upside he brings to the table.

Gianni is nobody new to PRZ. This weekend he didn’t do anything but help raise his stock as one of the best pure athletes in the area. He looks very comfortable playing both WR and DB, but I like him better at DB. Him being a WR also helps him have impeccable ball skills. During reps, I seen him know where the ball was going before the receiver did. He’s a fast track guy which gives him the comfort to play receivers anyway he desires. I look forward to watching him grow as an elite two-way player as he is only heading into his junior season.

Haynes is a top performer on both sides of the ball who could have been MVP at receiver or defensive back at the showcase, dominating 1-on-1 reps. He’s a strong, athletic defender who is sticky in coverage, can run with receivers downfield, and times his pass breakups well. With his speed, ball skills, and versatility, as you know he projects as a Power 5-level recruit at defensive back or wide receiver, especially as he continues to add strength and experience.

Haynes had to sit out much of the 2025 season after transferring from Alemany to Cathedral and had two touchdowns in six games. As a defender, he had nine pass break ups and 14 tackles.

He’s a true deep threat and will likely be one of the fastest guys at the showcase. Haynes has very good body control and is excellent against man coverage. Arizona and Sacramento State have offered him.

Haynes is a true burner on the outside, and one of the top deep threats across the state of California. He is coming off a tremendous second season for Alemany, and is poised for a huge Junior season and should be a 10+ offer guy by the time it’s all said and done. He can stretch the field, shows outstanding ball skills and body control when making contested catches, and can beat man coverage and get over the top of safeties and off-corners. He currently holds offers from Washington and Colorado State.
