. Ashford was one of the key driving forces behind Chaparral’s offense. The 5’11 191-pound junior had 161 carries for 769 yards and 3 touchdowns. Ashford has good athletic ability due to good speed, acceleration, change of direction, and balance. He has very good vision to find the holes and weave through the defense. He’ll go towards the sideline to gain extra yards. Ashford’s runs are smooth and fluid like he’s gliding. One of his biggest attributes his how he’s able to turn what would be negative plays into positive ones. Ashford doesn’t give up and keeps churning forward, attributing to his very good competitive toughness. He thrives with getting physical. Good trucking and a good stiff arm too. I wouldn’t be surprised if Ashford goes over 1000 yards next season.
Ashford is a back that has a knack for the explosive runs in the running game, being able to rip off big chunk runs and win the position battle. He has the ability to run in-between the tackles but excels when he is able to get out on the perimeter. He has some shiftiness to him, being able to get skinny in the hole and find an opening. He will be a player that will look to turn some heads this offseason and pop onto some scouts radar.
Ashford carried the ball 20 times for 115 yards and a touchdown, showcasing his ability to consistently pick up chunk yardage. Ashford’s vision and power allowed him to find seams in the defense and push through tackles, making him difficult to bring down. His toughness near the red zone was evident, as he was able to punch it in for a score when his team needed it most. Ashford’s performance highlighted his role as a dependable back who can grind out tough yards and deliver in key moments
Ashford stepped up in a big way in Week 0, Carrying the load with 22 carries for 151 yards rushing and 1 rushing TD. Ashfor’s ability to make the first defender miss and pick up chunk yardage was on full display, as he consistently moved the chains for his team. His performance was key in the victory and he is set to be a major contributor throughout the season.
