2028 Petersburg ATH Evan Tawney was our preseason breakout player pick for the Vikings, and after finally getting the opportunity to evaluate his film, it is easy to see why. Tawney is a true multi-purpose athlete who contributed in all three phases of the game as a sophomore. He rushed for 186 yards and three touchdowns, added 40 receptions for 493 yards and five scores, and finished with 64 tackles and an interception on defense. What stood out on film was his ability to impact the game in a variety of ways, whether lining up at running back, receiver, or safety. Tawney consistently found ways to get involved and looked like one of Petersburg’s most reliable playmakers. Small-school prospects can sometimes get overlooked, but the film backed up the production here. With another year of development ahead of him, Tawney is a player we expect to hear much more about this fall.

Petersburg’s Evan Tawney Evan Tawney 5'10" | 170 lbs | ATH Petersburg | 2028 State WV put together one of the more underrated sophomore stat lines you will find in the 2028 group, and that alone makes him a name to watch heading into the offseason. He contributed across the board for Petersburg with 186 rushing yards and three touchdowns, 40 receptions for 493 yards and five scores, and 64 tackles with an interception on defense. That kind of usage tells you the staff trusted him in multiple phases. Even without full film available, the production suggests competitiveness, durability, and versatility. Now the question becomes where his long-term home is and how much his role expands as an upperclassman. If he handles a junior jump, Tawney has the profile of a player who could move from productive contributor to true breakout player in his class.
